None.. I used to like sushil doshi as a cricket commentator.. TV me cricket dekho aur radio ki commentry suno.. TV commentary sucks big time no matter who is the commentator.

damn its quite the rage in india http://www.setindia.com/max/sidhuisms/ from Sidhu during the ongoing triangular series: ------------------------------------------------ - Sidhu: Ah! Sodhi is a fighter! A real fighter! He's like a rattlesnake! In fact, if he fights with a rattlesnake, he'll let the rattlesnake have the first 2 bites, and then he'll fight! Martin: I thought when a rattlesnake bites you you die the first time around, Navjot! Sidhu: But not Sodhi! Like I said, he's a fighter! A rattlesnake! - Sidhu: Interesting, that the number on their T-shirt indicates the nth cap for India! Sodhi, for instance, is the 128th cricketer to have played one-dayers for India! And he has 128 on his t-shirt! Martin: So what number were you Navjot? Sidhu: I was poor at maths Martin! I don't remember! - Martin, Harbhajan Singh has really begun well. As you know, a good lather is half the shave!!! - One day cricket is like Fast Food! Nobody wants to cook! (God help me with what THAT means). - Sidhu: Martin, you're like an Indian three wheeler that sputters spatters, makes a lot of noise, guzzles up a lot of diesel, but won't go beyond 30kmph! Martin: I think that's an apt description of the Indian batting, Navjot... Techie one --- - (When the Lankan pair was going along well..) these two batsmen are the centrifugal force of Lankan cricket!! - (When the famous Sodhi got hit for a four) Ah! The dibbly dabbly rattlesnake Sodhi... bowls so slowly!! - (When Ganguly took a near-vertical skier of a catch, and the replay was being shown) Ah! Ganguly is looking at the ball with the utmost concentration... like the ball is an air-hostess, high in the sky!!! - (When a batsman hit a handsome four, and was caught staring at the bowler in the replay) Ah! That was unnecessary! The batsman should realise that what matters is the expression on the face, not what you do with the bat! - (When Martin said that if the Lankans make 6 and over now they'll end up with a total of 250...) Martin, if if's and buts were pots and pans, there would have been no tinkers! Repeat after me, Martin! if if's and buts were pots and pans, there would have been no tinkers! Martin: Navjot, I think you should be a school teacher... - (after a handsome four by Ganguly..) Wow.. he really took the cake with a red cherry on top! - (Commenting on Ganguly after he was out for a low score in the 2nd test against Zimbabwe) ...looks like a brooding hen over a china egg. (In the midst of a verbal duel with Tony Greig) If ifs and buts were pots and pans, there would be no tinkers. (In the midst of a verbal duel with Martin Crowe) wickets are like wives ,you never know which way they will turn. (When India were 8 for no loss against New Zealand) The indians are going to make mincemeat of the Kiwis and eat them with tomato sauce. cake with the red cherry on top" "as cool as cucumber" "as wily as a fox" He also compared relation between children and persons to that between morning and today. (when sachin hits a good short against zim) and that is the vintage sachin we all know (india's last match against nz) newzealanders are like bicycles in the cycle stand, if one falls down the complete row will be down (in india's match against srilanka) a good lather is half the shave... (to martin crow in a match against newzealand) india is going to crush kiwis and martin will need a hanky at that time (later he offered a towel instead of hanky when nz scored 209) (referring to kalu) .... He is poky , short , & as agile as a cat. (when dharmasena skied the catch) ..... ball went up in the air , even air hostess would have taken the catch this shot was as sweet as tooty frooty gap between bat & pad is so much that even we would have driven car through that... But the classic Sidhu comment remains.... India's problems can be summed up in one word... just one, single word... handling pressure! and don't forget this ultimate one We all are the children of Adam it's the silk that makes all the difference |

Damn.. that was funny.. I guess I have to now watch out for sidhu's bloopers..
I remember one from avtaar singh sethi.. radio comentator.. Aaj greenij pitch par khel rahe hain aur un ki biwi west indies me bachha dene waali hai.. (she was aparantly in the maternity ward awaiting a baby which is true.. but what a way to describe that..) Man I laughed so hard that day I still remember it.

well talking of talkers the men who make the game famous are the people we hear speak,.....than the players themselves.
so someone with a sharp tongue can steal the show.......... which is why i feel a combination geoff boycott and harsha bhogle is absolutely fabulous. harsha with his unique sense of humour and boycs with his blunt approach enthrall one and all

Gavaskar gives good analyses and also defends India in front of the mindless onslaught of Tony greig and co. Shastri doesnt do that.
I remember in the famous Kolkatta test against Aussies in 2001 on the morning of the 5th day when India continued to bat in the morning, every 10 mins or so Tony Greig was hollering on the mike that why doesnt India declare and let the Aussies in to bat and try for a victory. India declared after a full hour and a half after Tony Greig started his hollering and still managed to bowl the Aussies out. Now Shastri was accompanying Tony for an hour of that and he said nothing to defend the Indian decision to carry on batting and make the final total unreachable for the Aussies. Had Gavaskar been there, he wouldnt have let Tony get away with it especially at the end of the match when we had won. Another instance was when during the recent South African tour, at the end of a day's play the they were taking phone-calls from viewers. One Indian caller asked why is Sachin not a good batsman in the second inning of a Test. Shastri ridiculed the caller saying that how can he cast such aspersions on someone like Sachin. Now the fact is that Sachin's batting average in the second inning of a Test Match is just in early thirties. So the caller was right, but ignorant Shastri completely ridiculed the caller. He should have listened properly and checked the statistics first.

havent listened to much of siddhu's commentary.. but if all that is written abt him is true, i think he will win hands down any day..
i voted for geoff boycott.. shastri is sapaat.. gavaskar gets too technical.. tony greg has a wonderful style but is biased against india.. ian chappel, bill lawrey, richie benaud are all good for analysing techniques and strategies but my favorite is harsha bhogle.. this guy is fundoo.. but tv commentary has never been as entertaining as the radio commentary.. sushil doshi, avtar singh sethi, ravi chaturvedi, chandu sarvate.. those guyz were entertainers.. |
