Yeah it really intrigued me too. I never gave a thought to how 'chakkas' come about. Now that this topic has come up, I remember a TV program long ago by Kamelshwar where some chakkas were invited. Kamleshwar was one fundu guy. He would invite anyone. Like once he invited the hangman from Pune's Yerwada jail. Thats another story for another time.

Well the chakkas being interviewed said that some of them are born that way. And some are converted. They said that many poor fellows feel that they can lead a better and safe from harassment life if they turn chakkas. They have a special ceremony where the male is turned into a chakka. Chhakkas as we know them in India are usually, in the simplest terms, Females trapped in a Male's body. Only a negligible % of them might be hermaphrodites having both male and female sex organs. No offence to Viking, but lets skip hermaphrodites for the time being.

btw... Vyomki's description is correct but not completely. The Chhakkas are not Hermaphrodites. They rather suffer from a genetic condition called the 'Double X Syndrome' or the 'Klinefeltor's Syndrome', where the male has an extra 'X' chromosome and has the combination of 'XXY'. Yeah 10th class meiN padha tha. These are the people who are males showing feminine characteristics including feeble development of breasts.

(Please note that Viking's 34D's are not because of this condition. Those are artificial implants and belong more the 'Hobby' category than some kinda genetic disorder. ANd don't dare think otherwise .. )
