Ring around a rosie

A friend was singing Ring Around A Rosie, I remembered hearing somewhere that it was really about the black plague so I went and snagged some evidence:

Every child has happily joined hands with friends and recited the familiar nursery rhyme, "Ring around a rosie, a pocket full of posies. Ashes, ashes, we all fall down." Few people realize to what this seemingly happy little nursery rhyme actually refers.

This nursery rhyme began about 1347 and derives from the not-so-delightful Black Plague, which killed over twenty-five million people in the fourteenth century. The "ring around a rosie" refers to the round, red rash that is the first symptom of the disease. The practice of carrying flowers and placing them around the infected person for protection is described in the phrase, "a pocket full of posies." "Ashes" is a corruption or imitation of the sneezing sounds made by the infected person. Finally, "we all fall down" describes the many dead resulting from the disease.

Yep. Very true.

Though I am surprised, nobody knew about it. This story is part of many facts or fiction books.

Pick up any book about stories behind rhymes and limericks and you will find this story among the first pages.

definitely baffling.....lekin u know of any more origins of nursery rhymes i mean what they actually mean.........
i always thought that it was:

Anyways...most of the nursery rhymes have some history behind them...few examples ..

- Baa Baa Black Sheep : About the practice of taxes in England in the middle ages where the farmers had to give a third of their produce to the King (Master), a 3rd to the ministers/noblemen etc (DAME) and the remaining they kept for themselves (THe Little Boy)

-Georgy Porgy pudding and pie,
Kissed the girls and made them cry.
When the boys came out to play,
Georgy Porgy ran away

This is about a Prince Regent. He was supposed to be a playboy of sorts...used to fuk around a lot. Was supposed to be a bit of a coward when it came to fighting duels etc.

-Hockory Dickory Dock,
Thre mice ran up the clok...

This was about some shepherds who used to count their sheep this way...

- Humpty Dumpty
This is about a cannon known as Humpty Dumpty (i dont remember the city)...it was shot down, but the king's men couldn't repair it ..

- Ole king cole,
a merry ole soul..

About a British king called Cole...

Many others...abhi yaar nahin..
