Exclamation World On The Threshold Of Another Recession?

World stocks fall on dismal US hiring

Jun 4, 2012, 02.53PM ISTBANGKOK: World markets took a beating on Monday as another setback for the US economic recovery sent investors fleeing from stocks.

A weak US jobs report flustered investors and intensified fears that a global recession was in the making. The dismal report released Friday came on the heels of other data that showed weak economic conditions in Europe and Asia.

Unemployment in the 17 countries that use the euro currency stayed at a record-high 11 percent in April. And there were signs that growth in China, which helped sustain the global economy through the 2008-2009 recession, is slowing significantly. China's manufacturing weakened in May, according to surveys released Friday.

Re: World On The Threshold Of Another Recession?

The world has been in recession since 2008 crash. It has been running on the oxygen of stimulus packages, what they call QE in America. The present drawdown is the market's ploy to goad the US government into declaring a QE3.

Our own RBI has hinted at rate cuts in its policy meeting on June 18. But I don't see anything substantial coming out of it. OTOH, Brazil and China have had further rate cuts.

Re: World On The Threshold Of Another Recession?

When America sneezes, the world catches a cold.

But, sooner or later, the Chinese might do something to negate that saying.

Americans are loath to save, but they are addicted to cheap Chinese goods.

America is in hock — to China. The debt burden of America to China is just so humongous.

Re: World On The Threshold Of Another Recession?

Something tells me the American economy needs a fundamental structural change. The turbulence in the economy is the result of the current weakness.

Re: World On The Threshold Of Another Recession?

There is a 50 year old novel, "The Moneychangers" by Arthur Hailey. It sum pretty much what's wrong with USD. The situation is still relevant today. Too much money printing is destroying the dollar value. What appears to be a strong dollar today is not necessarily good for the US economy. The situation is, the dollar is buying more abroad and lesser at home.

The money managers in USA too, don't really want a very strong dollar because basically the principle is "A strong dollar = a weak everything else". That includes the commodities as well as the real estate, not to mention the equities.

Re: World On The Threshold Of Another Recession?

The world is definitely heading towards recession.

There is going to be dramatic slowdown in china and esp India. Diversify out of INR if you are indian. USD is relatively safer.

Dividend paying stocks are the best bet. (preferably Euro or us)

Re: World On The Threshold Of Another Recession?

In a slowdown, the dividend paying stocks too would underperform. Does anyone know of any Bear funds / Bull funds in India ?? Something similar to FAZ / FAS in USA ..

Whether shag or sleep, everything underperforms in a recession, except the Bear funds

India has been BSing with this idea of weak currency as an advantage for export industry, but seriously...what is india making really?we use 90% of consumer goods made in china. So weak currency is advantage for china, korea and japan but never for india
