Indian National Pledge - Your view

What do you guys feel about our National Pledge?
Quote:
India is my country and all Indians are my brothers and sisters.
I love my country and I am proud of its rich and varied heritage.
I shall always strive to be worthy of it.
I shall respect my parents, teachers and all elders and treat everyone with courtesy.
To my country and my people, I pledge my devotion.
In their well being and prosperity alone, lies my happiness.
Reciting during school days it used to be common among guys to say except one and ogle at the girl you then crushed.

Reading it now, reminds me of essays we used to compose in high school

Where has our rich culture vanished?
Sure we seldom claim to have rich and high cultural values.....but just look around and you will see what I am talking about.

Re: Indian National Pledge - Your view

the pledge is just another instance of unrealistic moral crap thrust upon us as students. how can all indians be my brothers and sisters just another instance of over the top exaggerated unrealistic emotional outburst of someone thrust upon others.

Moral crap is correct. I do not think even in school days we consider others as brothers and we can altogether forget the sister part.
I guess it is somewhat like Love thy neighbors

We had it in Gujarati, and printed on the first page of all text books.

I had forgotten over half of it but was able to recall it after reading the English version above. Good stuff

bichari nishtha

When i was in school. we had one girl with the name Nishtha. After Prayer, we used to recite this pledge and almost every boy in our class looked at her while speaking the maari nishtha arpu chhu....

Sanskrit pledge used to come for 10 marks in sanskrit paper, I used to get passing marks because of pledge only

I generally used to say "Bharat hamara desh hai, Hum sab bharatwasi "any of the persons standing near me" ke bhai behan hai.

Once I said, Hum sab bhatarwasi Roshini ke bhai behan hai. She started laughing and both of us got suspended, recently when I met her she reminded me of that incident. almost 9 years has passed since then
