individualism v/s collectivism
we meet lots of people in our life right from our school, college and then work.We even have people with different mentality among our family and relatives.
you come across people with individualistic attitude. They are ready to grab any job and work on it alone. They believe that "too many cooks spoil the broth".I am not sure how far these people go,but always want to go solo.In school i was sorrounded by such people.People with plenty of self confidence and wanted to do everything by themselves,be it sports or academics. Just opposite to them are the people who believe in team work. They think a job or project can be more organised if multiple brains work at it.Lot of exchange of knowledge also takes place in the process. All corporates and IT companies want a collective effort on their projects. At my job ,i am surrounded by people who believe in collectivism (they dont want to take full blame of failure). what kind of person you are?or what philosophy do you support? do you think corporate can do better if they have an individualistic approach?? do you feel collectivism should be promoted among individuals right from their student days? lets give our views-counter views here.

Re: individualism v/s collectivism
It has to be a balance of both... without collectivism, there can never be success in big tasks, without individual strength, there can never be a direction to collectivism.
Perhaps individuality can survive on its own, but collectivism needs a little individuality to survive and move... |

Re: individualism v/s collectivism
collectivism certainly better than individualism if every individual in the team uses his strong points and lets other use theirs.
too many cooks spoil the broth only when individuals bring-in egos/weak-points rather than strengths. apart from better results, collectivism also means distribution of the rewards of the result. individualism could means selfish people wanting to corner the moolah ![]()

Re: individualism v/s collectivism
collectivism has often seen only few of the team working and others not taking much of an effort. When they are successful ,the entire team gets credit while the actual efforts are put by just 1-2..how can that be countered?
