Re: Watch....

Awww.... what a disappointment. When I read watch... I thought I was getting something to watch... like a nice video... or something

Does your hubby really wear a watch... in this age of cell-phones... and time everywhere. Ask your mom to present him a nice cell-phone. Should get a good one at that price... and India rocks as far as cell-phones are concerned.

from an earlier post of yours ....

"I wanna watch .. I wanna watch!!" is probably what her hubby said

Sorry for disappointing you. I will make it up for it. I promise .

yes, he wears a watch. He loves them in fact. The ones where we set the time manually....they must be very expensive isnt it? But even if I pitch in the money, will we get a manual watch for like 50,000 Rs? Any idea?

Rs. 50000 for a watch... damn, India has become expensive. I bought my first watch for about 500... and my wife presented a real good watch, which I am sure was not more expensive than 2000.

And I will be waiting... it better be good

I dont wear a watch and hence i wasn't really aware of how expensive they can get. I was browsing through Tissot collection and believe me, they are expensive.

So anyone...any suggestions?

Re: Watch....

Check out Tag Hauer. You can get a pretty decent chronograph for
Rs. 50k.. Breitling is another brand your hubby might like...

Thank you so much. By any chance will we get these two brands in India? Like in Chennai or Hyderabad?

Also isnt Breitling too expensive?

I see no point in going for such expensive watches... All those chronometers and seamasters are overrated watches. Your husband is not a space traveller that he needs time precision in nanoseconds.

I have never had a very expensive watch... Timex in India(about 2000 bucks) and was gifted one here last year(about $100 )... I think within $200 to $400 you'd get a very good watch... Go for Swatch.. my dad has one...lasts long...much cheaper than omega alpha gamma etc... looks good... go for a little heavy watch...most men like heavy watches..

A suggestion.. you can go with a pocket watch too.. with silver chain and compass... they look good...not much of use..but once in a while he can wear it for parties etc.(you can get manual one too)... Maybe in an antique shop you can get something really good.

Where I come from (Delhi), we had a showroom for Tag Hauer so am assuming chennai and Hyd have them too. I am pretty sure breitling too must have joined the fray. if not, I am sure those fancy departmental stores must carry these brands.

Re: Watch....

if you want to blow some serious cash on a watch - you can look at cartier pasha or tank lines of watches

or you could buy a rolex oyster perpetual datejust or something like that..

but ya these are a bit on the expensive side and you'd have to really shop around to get a good reliable price..

Delhi has some real good watch shops... they have showrooms of Tag and tissot and all...

Rakhi jee if you're stopping in Delhi and interested in antique watch... there is a shop in CP which sells items from british period... I saw a really good pocket watch there...don't remember the price though.. but it was way out of my budget...

Yeah i agree that its too much to spend on a watch. But thats the only thing we can think of as a gift. Thing is Chitrala, this would be the first time we will be going together back home after marriage. So we missed our first Diwali, first Pongal and first everything which usually South Indian inlaws make a big deal about. initially my mom wanted to gift him a gold bracelet, gold chain and ring. You know how we Tamils love gold, dont you. Hubby isnt going to even touch them let alone wearing them. So I had to persuade my mom to think of something else. Thats why she wants to buy an expensive watch.

Re: Watch....

50K for watch.....man something special?
Anyways. I will recommend buy one online ( you can go to check local store and get the same one online), much cheaper and in case of problems, you can fix it locally.
I will recommend Fossil watches. They are good and you can get a good one for $100. And if you want you can go for higher price too.
The reason to get online, is you will find them much cheaper than any store for obvious reason. And fossil has 2-3 yr warranty. Buying from India, if anything goes wrong, you have to do shipping or wait for someone to travel.
