Recommendation for Camcorder

Guyz,

I am looking for a camcorder which has good video quality - still camera quality is not important for me.
Reviews which I read on net - very few of them endorse video quality on Sony camcorders - Probably Canon has taken over as market leader in camcorders from Sony?

Also, which storage media is best - DVD,flash or Hard Disk?

Problem with these camcorders is that market is totally refreshed with new products every month.

If anyone has done some recent research ,help me out.Not looking for overly expensive product.

Don't go for Hard Disk.

Whats the budget?

Ask YedaAnna for more details about specs.

BTW.....Check this latest one.

There are tonnes of good cameras at that price. Try Steve's reviews and you will get a good feel for which one you want to buy. My personal choice would be a good hard-drive-based Canon camera.

Amthapal pai, would like to know why not buy a hard-drive based camera?

Shakeless.......Nappy is asking for CAMCORDER, not a "camera".

And,

You two are techies, Work with computers all the time. You should know how delicate hard drives are. I know, they make sturdier these days, but still.

I had written camcorders... but the mods changed it to camera ....

Sorry, I was thinking camcorders but wrote down camera. But my own personal point is why buy a camcorder when you can make half as good movies with a camera. And of late, almost as good. I find it hard lugging a camcorder around (especially my old Sony jumbo-sized camcorder with built-in printer)... whereas my small point-&-shoot camera sits right in my pocket... and takes good small clips that are easily downloadable to my PC.

As for hard-drives... maybe one can go for a SD-card based camcorder/camera.

Re: Recommendation for Camcorder

I am not too current with latest models since I am not in the market for a camcorder. However, I was looking for video editing software reviews recently, and experts in the field seemed to suggest that Mini DV camcorders are still the way to go as opposed to Hard Drives or Flash Memory ones because DV yields a better video quality and raw output that can be edited by a wide variety of software (whereas HDD/Flash memory often compress the video before you can use/edit it).

Re: Recommendation for Camcorder

@Napolean: www.camcorderinfo.com is a good place to start (and possibly stick around).
@Charchila: You are focussing on the storage type (hard disk / dvd / MiniDV). Focus should be on which camcorder can capture the image best. Storing it is secondary.

For instance, when I was in market for one 4 years back, there were 25 diff models of varying storage types available. Each of them had only 1 CCD to capture the image though, except one Panasonic model which had 3 CCDs (one each for RGB).

These days the choice needs to be between SD and HD [Standard Definition Vs. High Definition], in addition to capture quality.

Thanks guyz.
Ravi,that site is quite good.

I am leaning towards Canon FS200 after reading its reviews and taking a look at it at nearest Electronics stall.

Note that it is a Standard Definition camcorder. While there is nothing wrong with it, an HD camcorder would always be better since we're all moving to HD now.
