They say love transcends all boundaries - whether of race, religion or even nationality.

Auto driver Harish Kumar and tourist Whitney Stalker set an example on Tuesday, with an East-West fusion of the marital kind. The two met for the first time in Jaipur, when Whitney - who is from Chicago - hired Harish's auto to see the sights around the Pink City. Four days later, they were happily married.

"I asked her to have tea with me and she agreed. After that I showed her around Jaipur. We fell in love as we rode together. As soon as we had discussed our feelings, we decided to get married," explains Harish. "I think he's really a happy guy, so bright, so smart. He treats me very nicely," adds Whitney.

The couple got married at an Arya Samaj temple. And though Harish's mother admits she was keen on a bride from her own community, she has now accepted her Videshi Bahu on her son's insistence. "Parents have their own dreams and I wanted him to marry within our caste. But now I've given them my blessings, because our happiness really lies in whatever makes them happy," says Pushpa Devi.

Whitney doesn't understand Hindi, and Harish's family is trying to give her a crash course in the language. But that will have to wait till the newlyweds return from their honeymoon - in America.

Just 4 days later they got married
Either I am too paranoid or the west started having a strong impact in my way of thinking. Just 4 days of courtship (especially when a white lady is concerned) is too short a time.

And i am surprised that the lady is returning to Jaipur. I would have expected her to take him to Chicago (who knows, Amthaji would have interviewed the couple for us).
Lets see what MIL has got to say if 'videshi bahu' doesn't know how to make yummy aloo paratha's and Mrs. Autowala's only amusement is to please MIL.

Ya...if the videshi bahu lasts for that long as Mrs. Autowala. Chicago and Jaipur are so different. Its difficult to adjust that way.

Yeah......Ek baras is a very long time, possibly a decade for her...

If they beat all odds to stay together, they should surprise everybody with their jat-pat shaadi....

Underestimating? Emmm...what makes you think so? Swami, unless there is a strong inspiration for her to be in Jaipur (which will hold good for a long time), why would she want to leave Chicago? (except for winters of course)

For the record, even I would hate it if i have to sit at home and cook/clean all day long...more so because I am used to working all day long and being financially independent.

Jaipur has lots of foreigner tourists... they can definitely do with a McD or KFC.
