Question Hinglish : Polluting Indian languages

Have you been able to say with you collegues

Meri hawai uddan subah ke 9:00 baje xyz hawai adde se hai

without the fear of being jeered at?

Dont you think we are screwing up our languages?

Another example. Yaar kya boriat hai meaining How boring it is!!

Are all Indian languages being basterdised this way or is it only Marathi and Hindi?

Re: Hinglish : Polluting Indian languages

I dont know about Southern languages, but yes Hindi and Marathi already use many English words. No one says 'mej' but say 'table'. Like 'Table Kursi' and not 'Mej Kursi'.

Same to same with gujju too.

What else can you call BUS?

But when it comes to mixing english with Hindi, No one can beat Bombayites. No Not Mumbaikars, Ppl from Bombay's English medium school/colleges.

Bhaiya mere that is how a language progresses and ultimately developes into a new language.... How do you think hindi came into existence... there are tatsam and tadbhav words in hindi... which refers to the origins of the words... It happens with every language...

See how Kundan writes english... He must be laffing at us for writing impure or bastardised version of english... That said I agree that what we speak is rather local parlance than chaste hindi..

BTW cha pai.... Mez is an urdu word...

Bhai, don't mind but do u know that, hawai (hawa) and subah are not classical hindi word. They are either urdu or arabic/farasi words ( I am not sure either, but they are definitely not hindi words).

In hindi hawa is called vayu or pawan, and subah will be bhor.

A language needs to adapt itself with time, else it cant survive. The purpose of language is to communicate, so the more words you have in it for expression the better for it. English is the most popular language in the world cause it gladly adds hundreds of new words from other languages every year. With time, you do need regular modifications in language and its good that hindi became hindustani ( a mix of hindi, english, urdu/arabic). I see nothing wrong in it.

Some words like 'computer' are used in Hindustani as 'hindi' words. Do you know whats the shudh hindi or marathi for it ? In sanskrit computer is called 'sangadak' but why would someone use that word? Just to trouble others?

aeroplane is called 'vayuyaan' and if you want to use it in classic hindi than you can say 'meri pune se delhi ki 'udaan' subah saade saath baje hain aur main vimantal/vayuadda che baje tak pahunch jaauga'

subah- pratahkaal/bhor

p.-s I feel even 'udaan' must be urdu or sth

Question Re: Hinglish : Polluting Indian languages

Anyone from south India? Any opinion on what they feel if their own languages are okay?
