Teacher accused of sex with eight boys


A former teacher has been accused of having sex with at least eight high school students who she met through the school baseball team.

Julie Pritchett, 34, a former teacher at Clay-Chalkville Middle School in Alabama allegedly had sex with boys, who are aged between 15 and 19 after meeting them during her work as a patron of the school baseball team.Mrs Pritchett worked with the Diamond Dolls, a girl's group which supported the high school baseball team. Police said that it was through that position that she came into contact with some of her former students who were involved in the high school sports programme.


Police allege Mrs Pritchett, who is married, started a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old former student in February. He later bragged to a friend about the incident and Mrs Pritchett later approached his friends for sex. Over the next three months, she had sex with eight boys, police claim.
The sex acts, which allegedly took place on the school campus and in the boys' homes, were initiated by Mrs Pritchett, police said.


She faces two counts of second-degree sodomy and one count of second-degree sexual abuse in the cases of two boys under 16. The victims in the cases which she has been charged with are under the age of consent. She faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.


Charges are not being brought in the other identified incidents because the boys are of consenting age or unwilling to cooperate with authorities, said Sgt Randy Christian, a spokesman for the Jefferson County sheriff.
There could be other boys who have been involved with Mrs Pritchett that authorities are not aware of, Sgt Christian said.


"It takes such a long time and so much effort to become a teacher. It is very difficult to understand that someone would waste all of that by such actions," Sgt Christian said. "It sounds like she has some serious issues to work through, but that will never excuse what she has done."


He said Mrs Pritchett, who was a special education teacher and a sponsor of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes club at the school, resigned from her teaching position last month. The investigation was sparked by a parent who complained to police that his son had been sexually abused by a teacher.


Phone records have been subpoenaed in the case and support the statements of the victims and witnesses, police said.
