How do yall do your Taxes?

I had always done my own taxes till last year... always gone through all the documents, paperwork... and then fill out the form... used to take me a couple of weeks (10-15 minutes or so a day)

Last year went to H & R, and guess what? they did exactly what I was doing all these years and they charged over two hundred bucks This year will do it myself again.

H&R have standard charges of 200$ or what? I have a slightly complex tax this time so thinking of going through them, I got like W-4 from school, from work, some from OPT time work etc. Any idea how much they wud charge for something like this?

my wife files the taxes

once did go to hr block while filing very first time and once a cpa friend of mine helped me for free coz i had few w2s from diff states and employer. yaar filing for w2 is piece of cake i don't itemize don't do much stock trading etc. so its really simple. once u finish 1040 state is no brainer.

but yaar does turbo tax take into account shit like tuition waiver, opt wages, regular wages, basically all of student life and work life all mixed up ? bole toh there are lots of clauses n stuff right that I could file for and get more returns? what do they call it? ummm deductions or something? turbotax will give all that info better than some dude doing it??

No, you do not have to buy and install the software on your computer. You can do taxes online.


For those who do it online, what service do you use?
I have used Turbotax for several years now, but thinking about changing it to TaxActOnline this year, as it costs less and my taxes are straightforward.

HR block is waste as some kid or minimum wage worker is at the terminal who doesn't know shit beyond entering your info.

I used to do it online using the cheapest saaftware - Tax act untill the last time i looked - there are even some free ones listed on the IRS website, electronic file or e-file with your bank routing #s and bingo within 5-10 days the money u want is taken out or deposited to your account


Nowadays Tax situation is a little caamplicated so i goto this great desi CPA.. He itemises nicely and gets me a good amount of money - even back filed for a few years and got me some money..

so i think he's worth it and i don't wanna have to deal with the headache of doing it myself.

If you want to 'outsource' your tax preparation to India, there is a site www.taxexact.com.

It is a Gujju CPA from Savannah. He has a few CAs based in Baroda who will do the taxes for you.

Today finished filing our taxes with H&R Block...This year they charged 350$...that was big hike....Got 50 $ credit for having long distance phone connection- this was new to us.

One of my friend told -- For the first year in USA one can show all living expenses including car...How true is this ? Those who are new here can find more.

I do it with paper and pencil (and later finalize it with ball point pen)

I don't even use a calculator.

Why would somebody want to do taxes with a software (thereby making some asshole rich) is beyond me
