Howz HnR DB? It's kinda messy this time, so thinking of going to them.

Every year we say let us do it ourself and we wait wait and almost end date nears and at last end up in filing with H&R Block. One year we filed with Jackson Hewitt. This year is some change so mostly we will end up with H&R Block.

I get my done by a CPA who is also a friend. 3 years ago did myself for two years though.
But now back to him since he does my business accounting too.


So DB....Add an option of "qualified" CPA (private acounting firm, not any franchise like HnR and JH.)

its good man..juz go in wid yo W2 and they do it all..and theres somethin called as "Peace of Mind" thingy..pay 10 bucks extra and they take all responsibility incase anything goes wrong..

I dont like H & R Block because the guy sitting behind the terminal, sometimes, does not know much about tax laws, etc. He really is unable to answer much if he himself is not a CPA.

I have been filing my taxes with the help of a desi CPA, who unlike many here in Bay Area, does not encourage all kinds of shady tricks to maximise returns. I trust him and find him very knowledgable and reliable.

But the thing is "someone else" can be anybody.
I have seen lots ppl with Bcom from India, doing taxes here in the tax season. Yup I know its very easy these days, lekin, kintu, parantu....apne desi log naa jaane kyu darte hai khud prepare karne se.

Another thing, these so called "seasonal tax experts" tempts ppl to get mo refund to increase their own business, puts in wrong info, which a qualified CPA would never do.

Like one my jagoff brother in law used to go to one dude , I chechked his forms once and I was shocked at what info this maaderchor had filled in to get him more refund.
He claimed couple of thou for baby-sitting and in the social # catagory for whom it was paid to...he put down info unavailable.

In these kind of cases, who gets in trouble?
You, since he did not put his name , no etc for tax preparer. In there he puts in ..prepared by "self".

My whole In-laws side family used this bastard. Not only them, lots of desi's fell for this guy.






BTW....he is in jail right now for some other...issue.
Guess what....money laundering. SOB got caught for money transfer, because he did it for some muslims who were under investigation for terrorist support activities.

What do you file? 1040EZ, 1040 or Corporation type taxes? I have used Turbotax for the last 6 years (used H&R block before that). Believe me, unless you have some complicated business filings, Turbotax is prolly more reliable than H&R. Regarding culpability, please read the fine print - H&R block is only liable for mathematics errors and errors of misclassification. Turbotax asks you the same questions that the munimji at H&R does. Bottom line, TT is also cheaper.

Get with the program dood. Go get TT or similar.

yes, you have to shell out the $30 every year - includes state and federal. Good thing is that it can roll forward files - so it remembers your personal details and W-2 hitory, stock gain/loss history etc - reduces entry time in subsequent years
