Re: Narendra Modi : Next BJP PM Candidate?

I am hoping Narendra Modi ji will get to be PM of India in the near future. He is a provenly brilliant administrator and honest and dynamic. Not sure though BJP would get support despite being the best choice among all parties currently. Our people would rather wallow in poverty and illiteracy and vote for corrupt idiots based on caste or religion than some one who can do good for the country! Hopeful but not too optimistic that BJP will be able to make it in 2014.

Re: Narendra Modi : Next BJP PM Candidate?

The US report comes so soon after Sonia's USA visit.. I think everybody is jumping the gun by speculating about 2014 polls. OTOH, it may be a brilliant strategy to crack BJP over a 2 year period. BJP management should put a stop to all calculations and comments about 2014 polls and the prime ministerial candidate. If they go on like this, and if Modi continues his naked show of ambition, it may be a self-destruct strategy.

Narendra modi loses JD(U) support

Narendra Modi has failed to follow 'Rajdharma' in Gujarat: JD(U)
PTI | Sep 18, 2011, 04.51PM IST

PATNA: The JD(U), a prominent NDA ally on Sunday hit out at Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi saying a person who "failed to follow Rajdharma" with five crore people of a state won't be able to do "justice" with 125 crore people of the country.

"Modi has failed to discharge Rajdharma in Gujarat... when he can't do justice with five crore people of a state how will he be able to deliver justice to 125 crore of the country," JD(U) national spokesman Shivanand Tiwari said.

Tiwari recalled that former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had even during the post Godhra riots referred to "extra care" for Rajdharma.

"There are still a sense of fear and insecurity among the people in Gujarat," he said.

"The body language of Modi during his speech in Hindi after beginning his fast has been full of arrogance," he said adding Gujarat had always been "a prosperous and developed area" and even during the British rule, there were so many ports and vast groups of traders doing brisk business in that state with rich cultural heritage.

"Modi who normally addresses people of Gujarat in Gujarati has for the first time made speech in Hindi," Tiwari said, adding it reflected that Modi wanted to address the nation as "a changed personality."

"But even during his speech he has shown no (no) regrets forwhat happened in Gujarat in 2002," Tiwari said.

Absolutely, BJP and its supporters need not get over confident about their chances in 2014. Much can happen in the next 3 years and Congress, being in power for 52 out of 64 years, is experienced in all kinds of maneuvers and dirty tricks. Engineered riots and caste wars need not be ruled out. Media is in their pocket too. Uttar Pradesh, a crucial state that goes for assembly polls in 2012 is in serious play with behen ji and Congress pitching in hard, dont know where that leaves BJP. So, many a slip between cup and lip, if at all, for BJP.

Like to add, though Congress and BJP are touted as national parties, in actuality niether nets more than 35% max of the votes. Of this for Congress at least half comes from Muslim vote. In Kerala, Hindu voters deserted Congress this time for the LDF and Congress is actually dependent on IUML and Kerala (Christian) Congress for forming the govt. In Assam a party floated and supported by Bangladeshi immigrants has made significant inroads. Congress need not be over confident either aboutt being the messiah of minorities or take Hindu vote for granted. For both parties it is essential to have coalition partners to form a govt.

Narendra Modi refuses to put on 'skull cap' offered by Muslim cleric

PTI | Sep 19, 2011, 03.41PM IST

AHMEDABAD: Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi refused to put on a 'skull cap' offered by a Muslim cleric during his Sadbhavana' fast in Ahmedabad.

Sayed Imam Shahi Saiyed, a cleric of a small Dargah in Pirana village on the outskirts of the city (he lives in Savali village of Dakor taluka), had on Sunday gone up to stage to greet the chief minister, at Gujarat University Convention hall.

He offered Narendra Modi a 'skull cap', but Modi politely refused to wear it, asking him to offer a shawl instead. The imam did so, and Modi was seen accepting it.

"Narendra Modi's refusal to accept the cap is not my insult but an insult of Islam," Saiyed told reporters.

"I had come to Ahmedabad after hearing about the Sadbhavna Mission fast and went to the stage to felicitate Modi.

"When I offered him the cap he told me that he would not wear it. He might have thought that wearing a skull cap will dent his image...," the cleric said.

The BJP, however, said it was a non-issue. "Narendra Modi has clearly said that his policy is not of appeasement of a section of society unlike other parties, but our approach is development for all and treating everyone as equal," party spokesperson Vijay Rupani said.

"Thousands of members of the minority community have come here, but nobody insisted that Narendra Modi put on a skull cap. This is a non-issue which is being turned into a big one by our opponents," Rupani said.

Re: Narendra Modi : Next BJP PM Candidate?

I love it... Our Indian political system and media is so fucked up that its thoroughly enjoyable now!

I had said that Anna Hazare will just be a flavour of the week. Now we have Modi with his drama of 'sadbhavna yatra' and fast. Earlier Advani announced he will dress up and do an anti corruption rath yatra.

Now we have to wait and watch the next media created 'flavour of the week'

Wah wah wah ....
