Exclamation US plane crash

49 people feared dead in US plane crash

New York, Aug 27: Forty-nine people were feared killed when a passenger plane with 50 people on board including three crew crashed shortly after take off from Kentucky on Sunday, US officials said.

The only person who survived was in a critical condition.

According to Federal Aviation Administration officials, the Comair commuter flight to Atlanta, Georgia crashed just after it took off from Blue Grass airport in Lexington, Kentucky early in the morning.

The plane crashed within less than two km from airport in a wooded area.

But bad weather does not seem to be the cause though there were scattered showers in the area, officials said.

FAA said it is investigating the crash.

Comair flight 5191, a CRJ-200 regional jet crashed at 6:07 a.m. (1537 IST) after taking off for Atlanta, an FAA spokeswoman said.

There was no immediate word on what caused the crash in a field. Light rain was falling at the time. The plane was largely intact afterward, but there was a fire following the impact, police said.

Media reports quoted Fayette County Coroner as saying the passengers and crew appeared to still be on the plane and the deaths were caused either by the impact or the ``hot fire`` on board.

A temporary morgue is being set up at the scene and the bodies will be brought to the state medical examiner`s office in Frankfort, Kentucky, reports said, adding both flight recorders have been found.

The airport closed for three hours after the crash, but reopened.

White house spokeswoman Dana Perino said President George W. Bush, who is spending a long weekend at his family`s summer home on the Maine coast, was being briefed on the crash.

Comair, headquartered in Cincinnati, is a subsidiary of Delta Air Lines.

Re: US plane crash

All such crashes should first be attributed to muslims... and then if required be revised
