Women power: What is your opinion on the newly politically liberated Indian women?

Did newly franchised women voters play a major factor in destroying the Congress today?

This factor must gain a wide discussion.

Re: Women power: What is your opinion on the newly politically liberated Indian women?

I do not yet have an opinion on the impact of the newly politically-liberated Indian women on the declining fortunes of the Congress party. This is a factor that needs to be thought about.

But there are other questions that must be asked as well, for instance: Will a union between a liberal, left-of-centre man and a conservative, right-of-centre woman work? Will the friction destroy the intimacy or enhance it?

This factor has not so far gained wide discussion, perhaps because many people run away from this topic, but why they run away from this topic is not yet clear to me. If you ask me, I think there are more and more questions that keeping popping up in one's mind, as you go about your daily activities, but, quite often, the answers are not available.

Thank you.

Reminds me of a relation in the British Serial 'Coupling' (was on Netflix - no longer there). The guy is Pro Conservative and the girl is pro Labor. She learns from the guy's ex girlfriend that he is quite well endowed and decides to compromise on political leanings for the size at the end of 4 seasons, he is shown proposing to her.

Indira was family wise politically liberated .. Now did she help any lady from outside her family .. Nope. In fact she wanted all to shup up .. Imposed emergency.

This bumper sticker i clicked a pic of many years ago said .. Well behaved women rarely make history.

She was known to despise politically active women including her own younger Bahu. The elder Bahu was not at all into Politics, so got along well with her Saasu ma. For that matter, any one politically ambitious had it. The story goes as 'When IK Gujral became an I & B minister, his mother was happy and said, "should become a PM one day". IK Gujral replied "If Indira Gandhi knows of such thought, she will fire me the next day"'

An interesting saas bahu drama serial can run on this for a decade.. One should watch Maneka's interview in Simi Garewal's rendezvous serial, the kinds of things she tells .. although the dead woman is not around to defend herself, I'd still take most of it to be true. She was THE typical middle class saasu maa, reminds me of Aruna Irani or even worse Lalita Pawar in the angry saas role.

Finishing off the political career of ambitious folks within the party is something Indira learnt from her father.. the reason why they rotated ministers every 6 months to 1 year, Congress continues the legacy to date.

There is some more Masala on this in Khushwant Singh's Autobiography. including the Saas Bahu fight just before Maneka left her Sasuraal. Apprently Sr. Madam hated Maneka's Mother (who actually passed away in 2011).
