Thumbs up Action on food inflation: Kudos to Government of India

Coordination needed to bring down food inflation: Congress

New Delhi, Jan 7 (IANS) With the government under opposition's attack over rising food inflation, the Congress Friday said both central and state governments have to work in coordination to bring prices under control.

Congress spokesman Shakeel Ahmed said Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee has written to state chief ministers asking them to take steps against hoarders and black-marketers.

'The prices can be brought down with coordination between the state and central governments,' Ahmed said.
He said both internal and external factors were responsible for rise in food prices.

High prices of food items, especially onions, led to a sharp spike in India's annual food inflation to 18.32 percent for the week ended Dec 25, compared to 14.44 percent the week before.

The Bharatiya Janata Party and the Left have criticised the government for not doing enough to check food inflation.

There is a difference between things to act upon, the actual effort, and the consequent results ...

How do you identify when and where to assign kudos?

This is just a plan ... no effort and no idea of how these efforts will be measured ... with a lack of measurables, how do you know your efforts were in the right direction ...

time for blame and kudos should not be made ahead of their times ... I feel .. otherwise it is just gaining political mileage even without the giving the kick ...

Of course the Congress govt. is doing enough to contain food inflation. Why, the petrol prices are going up again from midnight tonight.. by Rs. 2.5-Rs. 3 per litre !!!! Of course, this should help a lot in bringing down inflation. I guess the price of onions will come down from Rs. 60 now to Rs. 100 per kg

Petrol dearer by up to Rs 2.54 per litre

NEW DELHI: State-owned oil companies today raised petrol prices by Rs 2.50-Rs 2.54 per litre, the second hike in a month, on back of rising crude oil prices.

Indian Oil Corp , the nation's largest fuel retailer, will raise petrol prices by Rs 2.50 per litre with effect from midnight tonight, while Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd (HPCL) would hike rates by Rs 2.54 a litre, an industry official said.

Bharat Petroleum Corp, the third state fuel retailer, would raise price by Rs 2.53 per litre with effect from midnight tonight.

The three firms from on December 15-16 raised petrol prices by Rs 2.94-2.96 per litre, the biggest hike in six months.

Petrol at IOC outlets in Delhi now costs 55.87 per litre and from tomorrow it will be priced at Rs 58.37 a litre.

The fuel at HPCL and BPCL pumps would be sold at Rs 58.39 per litre from tomorrow.

Petrol at HPCL pumps at present costs Rs 55.85 per litre while it is priced at Rs 55.86 a litre at BPCL fuel bunks.

The official said the increase follows international crude oil prices climbing to USD 92 per barrel.

The state-run retailers are deliberately adopting marginally different rates to avoid being accused of acting as a cartel in the free market.

The government had freed petrol prices in June this year, but the state firms, which control 98 per cent of the retail market, continue to informally consult the oil ministry before revising prices.

Rs. 2.6 per litre!!

1 bro's bike: average 40~70 km = 50km/litre means extra 5 paisa per km... average riding per day 30km.. so extra cost to me Rs. 1.5 per day then monthly Rs 45

2 moped activa: average 20~30 km = 25km/litre means extra 10 paisa per km... average riding per day 15km extra cost to me Rs. 1.5 per day then monthly Rs 45x2 = Rs. 90

overall extra cost 0.0027%

marvel bhau,
On our forum its all about Congress evil, so your calculations wont make sense to anyone. BJP fanboys forget that oil is controlled by OPEC. Even in USA, currently, the price has gone up to $3.50 from $3 ... But here people wont dance that Dems are evil because of the oil price hike.

Maths was never my very strong point, but it seems to me that the calculation is not so very complicated. The present price is about Rs. 60, and it goes up by Rs. 2.6, what is the percentage?

2.6 is how much percent of Rs. 60?? about 1.8%.

What you "Congress ka bura mat suno, Congress ka bura mat socho, Congress ka bura mat dekho" congress bhakts conveniently fail to mention that the taxes on Petroleum products account for nearly 35% of the street price.

Also, when the price of crude fell down to nearly a quarter of their highs, the fall in street prices was hardly commensurate with it. Go figure.
