E-commerce major distances itself from actor's remarks, says it is neither connected nor plays a role in comments made by him

Distancing itself from the controversial remark by superstar and its brand ambassador Aamir Khan on intolerance, e-commerce major Snapdeal today said the comments were made by the actor "in his personal capacity" and the firm is "no way connected" with them.

"Snapdeal is neither connected nor plays a role in comments made by Aamir Khan in his personal capacity. Snapdeal is a proud Indian company built by passionate young Indians focused on building an inclusive digital India," Snapdeal said in a statement.

The controversy also raged online, with Netizens airing their views on Twitter. While many users deleted the Snapdeal app to show their protest against the e-commerce firm of which Khan is a brand ambassador, others have given a one-star rating (lowest).

"Dear @snapdeal I will not purchase anything from you until you remove @aamir_khan as brand ambassador. Will boycott #AamirKhan movies," read one tweet.

Khan is at the centre of a raging debate after he expressed "alarm and despondency" over recent incidents of intolerance during an interaction here.

"Kiran (his wife) and I have lived all our life in India. For the first time, she said, should we move out of India... She fears for her child, she fears about what the atmosphere around us will be," the actor had said on Monday.

Khan also supported those returning their awards, saying one of the ways for creative people to express their dissatisfaction or disappointment is by giving back awards.

"Everyday, we are positively impacting thousands of small businesses and millions of consumers in India. We will continue towards our mission of creating one million successful online entrepreneurs in India," it added.

I think this Kiran said this is made up plot. He was using Kiran so there is not much backlash. He knew that if he says it, people will think he is biased. He thought he could hide behind Kiran's pallu and say what in fact he wanted to say.

Where would be his credibility, if Kiran Rao were to breakup with him and reveals, she never said that.

What is surprising in this whole sorry ordeal is that he and his wife realized this now. I mean, I realized this way back when... when I packed my bags and left, realizing that there seems bleak chance for India to improve... at the ground level. Now... now when there is a chance that I might be wrong... now when we really have someone at the top who seems to be a good bet... now when there is more awareness and a chance to openly debate things... now had I been in India, I would probably be of a different mind. Eggjhactly. By "Kiran said this", he hides behind her & projects himself as a good husband who values women's opinion. When his brother made serious allegations against n him, he hushed up the matter , made all his relatives, including the then ex-wife, write a letter to the media explaining how " innocent " he is. Ek number ka dramebaaz hai!

Thats the power of Free economy. Power to the buyers. In old days (and in many ways still now), only those who decided which contract goes to what decided who made money. In Indira Gandhi's time, some FM (mostly Pranab Mukherji) decided that Indians dont need perfumes and spiked a proposal by P & G to make and sell perfumes. Read the book by Gurcharan Das.
