Prime Minister Modi and Reliance Jio

Was it wrong on part of PM Modi to endorse Reliance Jio

Well if you read the tag line carefully it says dedicated to 1.2 Billion Indians and Prime Minister Modi. So in reality 1.2B Indians are also endorsing Reliance.

Good try by Jio ..however, PMO should take exception and ask them to pull out his photo..PM cannot be seen endorsing a pvt company and give a perception of taking side of Reliance Jio compared to other operators like Airtel/Vodafone /Tata/Rcom & aircel.

Re: Prime Minister Modi and Reliance Jio

From my source.. A 2 minute media clip of Modi's achievements was prepared during 2014 general elections. The team put Adani's photo with Modi in there.. Thankfully was noticed and removed before rolling it out to news channels, would have been a huge blunder. That team had to do lot of explaining.

Re: Prime Minister Modi and Reliance Jio

I cannot see how this is endorsement by Modi?!

this is like saying a laxative producing company's products are endorsed by all those Patanjali people who want to see population healthy!

or durex's products are endorsed by those people who carry out Census

or that manikchand dhariwal endorsed Manikchand gutka

or more serious analogy

goddess lakshmi endorses lakshmi bombs!

or that bombay endorses bombay dyeing suits

or that R K Laxman endorsed Swami's posts

and on and on.

not everyone is intelligent like you, most common people can be made to believe Modi is with his gujju friend Ambani. A lie repeated a million times becomes truth, just like a recent canonization in Rome.

Well every Government is friend with Reliance and Tata . No one can afford to piss them off. Remember Reliance made money during 10 years of Congress rule....

So you can't say Modi is giving them favors..

I have a friend that is very senior level in Tata and he says that even today Tata policy is no bribes....... But they are so powerful that no one can touch them...

I was earlier saying that Adani also grew big when Modi was still a spokesman in Delhi.

the fact remains that Modi has not endorsed Jio or reliance.... I haven't heard anybody accusing Modi of endorsing reliance either. all the ads I hear very clearly state Reliance's intention of following through Modi's dream of digital India.

so the impression overall is that gujju friend Ambani is with Modi, rather than the other way round... With Modi's larger than life image, this impression is default - that even big corporations bow to Modi's wishes...

Re: Prime Minister Modi and Reliance Jio

Kejriwal and Congress have accused Modi of modeling for Reliance Jio. Wait till they make it a huge issue when Modi calls early session of Parliament for GST related bills.

Kuchh news padha kar yaar..

Congress, Arvind Kejriwal question PM Modi’s photo in Reliance Jio ad

In multiple tweets, Kejriwal, the Aam Aadmi Party chief, said, “PM of India openly endorses Reliance product… PM as Mr Reliance.”
Hours after Kejriwal’s swipe, the Congress, too, jumped in. “There are norms for using the Prime Minister’s photograph in any advertisement. What we know is that as ministers in the government we had to seek permission of the Prime Minister, or the PMO, for using his photograph in advertisements. Otherwise, we cannot use it,” senior Congress leader Ajay Maken said at the AICC media briefing.

He said the first question that arises is “whether Reliance has taken permission from the Prime Minister or PMO. And if Reliance was given permission, then will the Prime Minister and PMO give permission to, say, companies such as Cadbury or Amul or some toffee company in future to use his photographs in advertisements?”

Using the PM’s photograph without proper approval is prohibited under the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act of 1950. Under points 3 and 9-A, the law proscribes the use of such pictorial representation of Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Chhatrapati Shivaji and the PM of the country “for the purposes of trade, business, calling or profession”. Point 9-A of the act allows such representation on calendars, though.

Re: Prime Minister Modi and Reliance Jio

Right, I hadn't read that and I was in India when that ad came out... maybe after-effects. I am guessing if JIO flops then this will become an issue.

A similar example, is if ever you watch 'Qurbani', first 10 minutes are dedicated to Sanjay Gandhi

Re: Prime Minister Modi and Reliance Jio

If you want to do game changing things then one thing which is paramount is, nobody should be able to accuse you. You must act straight up. This crony capitalism nexus doesn't help Modi that straight up image. Mukesh Ambani may be rich but he hasn't earned the respect from the society. He is wasting the graciousness he received in throwing parties to Bollywood and Cricket as if he can not involve himself in better causes. Once Modi loses mass support, it will be easy for Mamta and AK to turn him into ash.
