Question Microsoft anti-trust settlement - What do you think?

What do you think??

I received this in the email from www.javalobby.org.

-----------------------------

Major news outlets are reporting that the US Department of
Justice and Microsoft have reached tentative agreement on a
settlement to the government's high-profile antitrust case. In
effect, it appears that Microsoft is about to walk away with a
slap on the wrist.

The wild card in the settlement may be the 18 States who are
also prosecuting the case, and there are signs that the States
want more appropriately stringent remedies as part of any
settlement.

I urge you to call or write your State Governor and Attorney
General to ask them to hold a staunch line and not to give in to
the pressure to settle. I have included links below to help you
easily find the various Governors and Attorneys General.

Microsoft has used its monopoly illegally to harm the Java
technology we support, so we know first-hand what the problem
is. We, the community of Java developers, have felt the stinging
impact of Microsoft's illegal behavior. Its consequences in the
future may be even more severe if this weak legal precedent is
established.

Your State leaders may not understand the full dimension of the
issues, and they need to hear from concerned individuals like
you that effective, continuing prosecution of the case can and
will make a difference.

It may not be too late, so please act now. Our voices may not be
sufficient to change the final outcome at this stage, but if we
do nothing then they definitely will not.

Warm regards,

I strongly believe Microsoft has done no wrong, and those who criticize it are simply sore losers.

Bull. Tell me a way they have been unfair to customers. If their competitors cant compete, then it is not their problem. It is problem of the competitors who are not in a shape to compete.

Red face Rona Band Karo

Who is "WE" in your post??

Race mein akela dauda aur first aa gaya aur bola, hum sab jeet gaye.

You sound like you helped developed JAVA technology or that Microsoft or even Bill Gates has personally made sure that you should have a bad time coz you are a JAVA developer.

Do not take the war between the industries personally, whatever is better and faster can never be stopped, it will always shine through.
If you were a major instrument in the development of the Java language, then I sympathize with you, but if you are not, dont sit and cry over spilt milk align yourself with the demand and need of the times. There is not a lot of difference in these technologies.
For example: Microsoft has per seat licensing for its products which is expensive, so what does Amazon do, it moves to Linux, a free platform.
There are some problems but "rone se to kaam nahi chalega naa."

On thread subject, I welcome the decision.

I think kameena means BullShit when he says Bull. He is not adressing you as a Bull (actually there are no Bulls in today's down economy, everyone is a Bear)

You guys! ... pause your foreplay with this nice topic yaar. We cannot control what's happening in the IT world.

All I wish is Linux/Unix & java based products should be as user-friendly and seemlessly integrated as Windows and windows products as economic as Linux/Java! - both are needed for a balance. If Linux/Java based products are good ... MS products will sell lesser and for lesser!

Cool Why Hate Bill

When Bill gates released Windows 3.1 he said his vision is to see a PC in every home. A user need not be an expert nor too intelligent to use a PC, which was not the case in 80’s. All he wanted to make an OS, which is user friendly. I am sure he achieved most of it.

His current vision is to make WEB as inseparable part of people’s life and integrate all electronic appliances.

In future we can see lot of AI (artificial Intelligence) and Fuzzy Logic appliances. Few are already in market.

Has any other software maker has envisioned this and if they did, have they achieved it.

On his way to achieve his vision he rapidly acquired lots of technology using his money and famous layers.

Let’s face the facts
Microsoft's programs work reasonably well most of the time, they're ubiquitous, and they're cheap

He an aggressive marketer of his products, he has best marketing division and best layers.

“Bill actually a mediocre software developer who built his monopoly by stealing others' work when he could, buying it when he had to, and threatening to destroy companies that tried to do business with anyone other than Microsoft”

Bill Gates and Microsoft are the most visible symbols of that glamour, regardless of how unglamorous Gates may be in real life.

His billions inspire blind worship and bitter envy. He is among the most admired of Americans, yet a small but dedicated minority hates him with such intensity that you'd think he was personally forcing them to use his products

Check out this link about Microsoft’s undocumented functions.
http://fringe.davesource.com/Fringe/...microfaq2.html

Just type “Microsoft Sucks” in any search engines you can see all the hate sites.

Why so much hate?
IS it because “Every Dog barks at Elephant”?

Or
Is it because Bill is too cunning, who wants to monopolize the market with his products or products, which works only with Win and nothing else?

I think it’s time for Microsoft to do some retrospection.

Live and let live others.

If Microsoft opens its door to secret codes( which they have to), the competitors have to catch up with him in five years. Not a bad idea. Though Microsoft will not make that easy for them.

This will only lead to better deal for users.

We have to see the effects on Developers.

For humor

If the MS products were not so buggy, why would companies need long development cycles with lot of developers, debuggers, and administrators. I think he is providing us lot of employment.

Lets discuss on pro’s and con’s not personal attacks please
