People who misguide others for no reason do not deserve respect & public support.

Rushdie... should be punished properly.

That literary festival got famous because he had graced the festival with his presence in 2007. He can't go there without security; enough security is needed for the entire festival, not just him. He very much wanted to come this time too ... it's not his fault that GoI wimps out.

Really... just because he spoke the truth that was too bitter for some people to accept

Budsaam pai, didn't know you were this inclined... but do you know that his book, the satanic verses, is based on actual verses in the book of peace? yes, the book that resides with the god of peace in the heaven of peace... the very same book. If you do not or did not know this then shame on you for making such a comment without knowing the truth. To punish someone is something a judge does... and to judge someone you need to dig to the truth of the matter... not just throw out sentences at your whim.

truth is very subjective term, what is truth for some might be blasphemy for others,

for example, if one goes out and kill his brothers for some property dispute citing mahabharat war, is it truth about Mahabharat or blasphemy

That is truth (if the Mahabharat is perceived as truth... or a truth based on fiction). Blasphemy is what people feel. You think blasphemy affects god/s No, it is a human feeling where his/her personal emotions reach a supreme height... you can even say it is a chemical imbalance in a human's brain induced purely by religious bias... aka a drug.

There are many kinds of chemical imbalances in this world. Mysterious are the ways of the human mind. For instance, falling in love headlong is a chemical imbalance.

Agreed... but this drug called religion ki baat hi kuch aur hai. You fall in love heads-over-heel and if not reciprocated, you might kill or commit suicide. But ye religion ka drug... you kill someone totally unrelated to the cause of the matter. Bas, jo bhi raaste par haat aaya, you righteously feel the need to kill

I think that, on this matter, you might want to confer with the spirit of Sri Karl Marx ji who has theorized that religion is the opium of the masses.

Saneless, you are absolutely wrong. You have no idea what you are talking about. You are incapable of judging anything or anybody.

I will explain with an example. Marhoom Hussain Saab (Allah unki rooh ko sukun aur jannat main ala muqam ata kare) made a drawing of butt naked sita sitting on the lap of lankeshwar shri ravan. An atheist can slobber on that painting and can ask an ardent, but angry hindu to show evidences that such an act never happened. But a theist, even if he is a musalmaan, wonít ask for any evidence to prove that such an incident never happened; not because he never read it in amar chitra katha or seen in ramanand sagarís ramayan (if that is your 'digging the truth'); but because he believes a shiv-bhakt (theist) like ravan cannot never do that to a woman.

Only a theist can understand or judge books or art like satanic verses. An atheist can only blabber non-sense to incite masses.

Never, religion people will also give you very solid reason to kill and even justify it by their ideology, Atheist are rational, masses are ruled by ideology that is it, for haditha massacre of 24 civilian US court imprisoned soldier for 3 month, On the charges of snatching a gun from marine Aafia Siddiqui is imprisoned for 86 years. US is fighting on the basis of nationalistic ideology and Taliban is fighting for relgio-nationalist ideology and both or justifiable it is just matter of taking side. otherwise both are killing each other in more or less same way in Afghanistan.

Again, truth is what some percieve, for some prophet or Ram is god and god messenger, entirely adorable, for others they are just piece of literature, but that does not mean that atheist should make fun of theist by writing character chengiz chamchawala, monkey king, and satan falling from the sky and dancing on the tune of Mera joota hai japani, like rushdie did. there is ton of atheist literature where people has against entity of god but target one community to prove atheism means something different
