Exclamation Kalyan court sends Raj Thackeray to 14-day judicial custody

Breaking-News: Raj Thackeray gets bail in Kalyan case. He was earlier remanded to 14-day judicial custody

Just saw it on TV, in the breaking news scroller, news not yet on internet

Quote:

Raj Thackeray back from lock-up, his aide arrested

Kalyan, Maharashtra, October 22: MNS leader Raj Thackeray, who was arrested on Tuesday and spent a day in police custody, returned to his residence amidst celebrations by supporters on Wednesday evening.

MNS spokesperson Shirish Parkar was arrested along with 12 other leaders belonging to the party.

Hundreds of supporters who thronged his residence 'Krishna Kunj' in the Shivaji Park area of Central Mumbai and celebrated Thackeray's return by bursting crackers after a court in Kalyan granted him bail.

"He is happy that he has been released from police custody and appealed to MNS activists to mantain peace," Shishir Shinde, general secretary of MNS, said.

Thackeray was arrested from Ratnagiri on Tuesday in connection with cases of assault registered against MNS activists for attacking North Indian candidates appearing for railway recruitment exams.

The MNS leader spent the night in custody at the Manpada police station in neighbouring Dombivali and was produced before a magistrate's court in Kalyan where he was granted bail. On Tuesday, he was granted bail in a similar case by a court in Mumbai.

There are many cases pending against MNS supremo Raj Thackeray.

Thackeray was also granted interim relief by the court in a case where Railway police sought his custody, after which he was released.

Sporadic violence was reported on Wednesday in Mumbai which was by and large peaceful, a day after MNS activists went on a rampage to protest the arrest of Raj Thackeray, as curfew was clamped in the area around the Kalyan court in Thane where the politician was to be produced.

Elsewhere in Maharashtra, stray cases of violence were reported in Ahmednagar district where MNS workers targeted buses breaking window panes in Sangamner area and resorted to arson and stone pelting at several places.

"There were no reports of any major violence in the city and the situation was largely peaceful," Police said.

As they kept a tight vigil on the country's financial capital, Police said they had been given instructions to sternly deal with MNS activists if they indulge in violence after Raj was picked up in connection with the attack on North Indian job aspirants on Sunday.

Curfew has been clamped in the area around the Kalyan court, where Thackeray was to be produced, and the Manpada police station, police said apparently not wanting to take any chances after Tuesday's arson and rioting in Thane.

The police had a tough time dispersing the crowd which had gathered around the police station and were maintaining a tight vigil.

In overnight violence in neighbouring Thane, three persons including brother of a local MNS leader were killed, Thane Police Commissioner Anil Dhere said.

The deaths were reported in the Pisoli village area in Kalyan last night after a clash between two groups.

Miscreants torched an auto-rickshaw in the northern suburb of Dahisar and damaged another in suburban Ghatkopar.

Services on the Central Railway was disrupted for some time when miscreants attempted to block tracks using a cement sleeper near Kalyan station, railway officials said.

MNS actions dangerous for democracy: Political class

New Delhi, October 22: Even as MNS leader Raj Thackeray walked free on Wednesday, the political class denounced his violent campaign against North Indians as ‘divisive politics’ portending danger for democracy.

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi accused Raj of indulging in ‘divisive politics’ and said his party would fight it out.

"Raj Thackeray is practicing divisive politics. Congress will fight such politics out fully," he told a press conference in Dehradun.

NCP chief and Union Minister Sharad Pawar criticized the violence carried out by MNS in Maharashtra but said there was no need for Central intervention as the state Government is already taking action in the matter.

"We say it's condemnable and it should not be done," the NCP leader, whose party is a part of the Congress-led coalition government in Maharashtra, said in Delhi.

He, however, made it clear that the Centre should not intervene but let the state government perform its role. "The Central government doesn't need to intervene in it. They (the state) have the right to assess law and order situation. We don't have the right to talk about it," Pawar said.

On allegations that the state Deshmukh government was not acting appropriately to deal with the issue, he shot back ‘What action should have been taken? 1,800 people have been arrested. Isn't action being taken?’

However, Samajwadi Party accused the state government of adopting a soft approach towards Raj Thackeray and laxity in dealing with the situation.

The state government could have restrained Raj had it been serious, SP leader Amar Singh said in Nagpur.

Sikh radical outfit backs Raj Thackeray

Jalandhar, October 22: MNS leader Raj Thackeray's drive against North Indian migrants in Maharashtra has found support from radical Sikh outfit Dal Khalsa which has announced a march on November 1 to highlight among other issues the influx of migrants in Punjab.

H S Dhami, president of Dal Khalsa said on Wednesday that MNS chief Raj Thackeray has been ‘misunderstood. "He is right in his own way as he is struggling to preserve and protect the culture, language and rights of his own people", he said.

Endorsing Thackeray's approach, Dhami said it was ‘unfortunate that the state doesn't provide suitable environment for non-violent struggle’.

Senior leaders of Dal Khalsa, including Kanwarpal Singh and Manjinder Singh, pointed to the migrant population in Punjab and asked the Punjab Government to regularise migrants.

They said demographic change in Punjab seemed to be ‘alarming’ due to ‘heavy influx’ of migrant population into the state.

The leaders said Dal Khalsa perceives that like Assam and Maharashtra the ‘outsiders’ issue is going to quickly emerge in Punjab also.

"All political parties, pursuing narrow political ends are oblivious of the social, cultural, religious and political damage done to Punjab by their unmindful support to the migrant population," the Dal Khalsa alleged.

"What is the need to facilitate the making of ration cards and voter identity cards of the migratory population? Why can't landlords and industrialists employ the teeming unemployed Punjabis?" the Dal Khalsa leaders said adding ‘the so-called developmental process that we see all around is benefiting only non-Punjabis and unscrupulous leaders of Akali Dal Badal and Congress’.

The Dal Khalsa would take out a march of party activists from Hoshiarpur to Jalandhar after performing rituals in memory of those killed during 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

Re: Kalyan court sends Raj Thackeray to 14-day judicial custody

That was quick. The last report i read all were boosting that Raj has many un-bailable charges on him and this and that. I guess this is what we call politics at its peak. I would not be surprised if all this was a set up after all.
Arresting him with the bail papers in hand

Re: Kalyan court sends Raj Thackeray to 14-day judicial custody

I saw on ZEE TV USA News too that Raj got bail (judicial custody) till the 24th from Kalyan High Court for a case pending there. The Railway Police Force had arrived from Jamshedpur or some such pur to arrest him for the 'examination candidates beatup' case, but the judge ordered that he cannot be arrested till the 24th.

Details are sketchy at best, but the overall sum is that for now Raj in out on bail.

Okay everyone has now done their part, including me, of demonising Raj Thackrey.

Now lets look at some other states - in UP and Bihar the likes of Laloo, Mulayam, Mayawati regularly create big ados over caste and other issues. Why is the media never so vocal about it?

When the Congress party workers vandalised and caused mayhem towards the Sikh communu=ity after Indira's assasination, why was justice not handed out swiftly? Why no reparations? Why is only MNS and Raj called a mental case by the Congress partner Laloo? Why?

When a police officer dies in a encounter with terrorists, the Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh has the audacity to demand a judicial probe into it. Why is this second guessing of police always when its a Muslim involvement? Why is the Congress and Laloo not calling Amar Singh mad?

I dont condone Raj's tactics, but why single him out? I know that no one is a saint in politics, but suddenly the UP and Bihar governments are more worried about 'bhaiyyas' in Maharashtra and Raj. Instead of ensuring that their states provide employment and infrastructure - which maharashtra clearly provides - and retain the bhaiyyas in UP and Bihar, why are they baying for Raj?

Sorry if I sound sympathetic to Raj, but I am just asking questions, which the English media and arm-chair blogosphere experts like us will not think of or wont discuss.

Well this is politics bhau. I do not think Raj is innocent either, but who will put hands on Lalu and others? Raj wants to own Mumbai and so he has to pay for it. I am wondering what is Bal Thackeray doing now?

Exclamation Re: Kalyan court sends Raj Thackeray to 14-day judicial custody

Why target us for being pro-Maratha, look at DMK: Sena

Pune, October 22: : Defending its stir to facilitate jobs for Marathi people in the Railways, the Shiv Sena on Wednesday cited the example of political parties in Tamil Nadu, including the ruling DMK, that were exerting pressure on the UPA Government to protect the interests of Tamilians in Sri Lanka.
"The DMK has even threatened to withdraw its support to UPA at Centre if the Government failed to curb the anti-LTTE offensive launched by Sri Lankan military," an editorial in 'Saamana', the Sena mouthpiece, commented. "These political parties are so sensitive to the Tamilian interests even outside India and Shiv Sena is being condemned for supporting jobs of Marathis in Maharashtra with the labeling of regionalism," the editorial in the paper, edited by party chief Bal Thackeray, said.

The editorial said just to mention a few, Maharashtra had given to the nation illustrious sons like Babasaheb Ambedkar, C D Deshmukh (who resigned from the Nehru Cabinet on the issue of Samyukta Maharashtra) and Atomic Energy Commission Chairman Anil Kakodkar.

"But the rulers in Delhi always handed a raw deal to Maharashtra and expected it catapult before it. The Shiv Sena will never tolerate this situation and will always support Marathis in their fight for justice," it said.

DMK is another joke man. fukkers un-necessary creating stupid politics right now, but it's all drama, they know they do not have public support after rajiv's assassination, but have to pay lip service.

hopefully the SL army will crush the Tigers once and for all

Re: Kalyan court sends Raj Thackeray to 14-day judicial custody

The best news about this is that Raj spent a night in police custody and Mumbai did not burn. The government has called his bluff and Raj has come out second best. He has been shown up for what he really is. A lout with no real political clout- just a few goondas here and there doing his bidding and making him appear to be bigger than he really is.

Re: Kalyan court sends Raj Thackeray to 14-day judicial custody

THIS WOMAN HAS GOT GUTS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I didn't know she is Marathi.

Me, Marathi written by Shoba De

Correct me if I am wrong, Raj... but I consider myself an assal Marathi manoos. Born in Maharashtra to Maharashtrian parents etc. Proud to be Marathi (even though my language skills in my mother tongue are embarrassingly dodgy). I don't know how to make the perfect puran poli but I do love aamti.. This is clearly not enough anymore. Going by the checklist, I could be disqualified on several scores. I am married to a Bong, who has lived and worked in Mumbai for over 30 years (but alas, has not been appointed ambassador to the state of West Bengal yet!). He attends Durga Puja regularly and prefers maacher jhol to vangi bhaat. Fortunately, we don't have a daughter-in-law to name a college after, either in Kolkata or Mumbai. And our children (like yours) did not attend Marathi-medium schools. We employ people based on their competence, not caste or region. And I have never asked the vegetable vendor, breadwalla, taxi driver, dhobi, sweeper, elevator attendant, security guard, pizza delivery boy or any of the other people who make my life easier, which part of India they come from. This is Mumbai, meri jaan! Who cares where anyone comes from? Dhanda is all that matters.. Mumbai is India 's most powerful magnet. Once you get here, you never leave. Don't believe me? Ask those innocent bhajjiwallas and doodhwallas who were beaten up and stoned by your men last week. Even with blood-soaked bandages around their heads, and broken hearts, they are staying put. As they should. Aaah, the natak of your dramatised 'arrest' was not lost on anybody. Had Rakhi Sawant's slapping stunt not grabbed those eyeballs on Valentine's Day, viewers would still be stuck with the image of a nattily dressed you (mmmm...loved the styling), clambering in and out of the police van. If Rakhi cleverly stage-managed the incident, what should one say about your brilliant coup? Overnight, Raj Thackeray was elevated from being the discarded Thackeray to a national figure. In one well-orchestrated move, you went from being a neglected nephew of an ageing tiger, to a sharp-clawed, teeth-baring cub with an independent act of his own. The circus acquired a brand new star attraction — you! It was never easy being a Thackeray. Ask Balasaheb. If he targeted south Indians in the '60s, you smartly headed north. Same agenda, diametrically different directions. By questioning the bona fides of those who have made Maharashtra their home, both of you tapped into the vulnerabilities of the average Marathi manoos. It is worth asking the very people whose interests you are protecting, whether they really want to do the dirty work currently being handled by the northies. Will the Marathi manoos agree to put in 18 hours a day plying taxis, selling veggies, washing clothes and so on? Who's stopping them from turning into vendors of milk, food grains, and other commodities? Perhaps, the Marathi manoos considers such occupations demeaning? The truth is, these jobs have always gone abegging, and there have been any number of hungry, unemployed people from other states ready and willing to grab them. Kick the 'outsiders' out at your own peril, and see what happens. Why do farmers commit suicide in such numbers only in Maharashtra ? The answer, dear Raj, may surprise you. In your defence, let me say you received the worst press — biased at best, and shrill to boot. Most of the semi-hysterical reporters from prestigious news channels were embarrassingly ill-informed as they blabbered incoherently each time a leaf moved outside the magistrate's court! Surely, you are not complaining? Everything seems to be going according to the master plan. You have 'made it' in one swift move. And women are finding you kinda cute in that sleeveless baby blue pullover. Great copy, great photo ops. What more does a neta want? To keep Mayawati and Lalu out of Maharashtra ? Now, that's a tall order!

Thanking you : Shobha De....

Very true, and to add to that, Thackerays, who are not original inhabitants of Mumbai, came to this city in search of livelihood.

Read the autobiography of his grandfather Prabodhankar Thackeray (Bal Thackeray's father). Prabodhankar Thackeray, who studied in Madhya Pradesh, has written how he travelled in other states for livelihood",
That makes Raj a Bhaiya too.
