![]() 2017 BMC elections have given a clear signal to the ruling Shiv Sena that do not take us Mumbaikars for granted.
Shiv Sena has been very arrogant since last 3-4 years and has been speaking all kinds of non-sense. I remember, that about a year or so ago, the BJP Chief Minister Fadnavis issued a rule that the abbatoirs and butcher shops should remain closed for the Jain festival of Paryushan. Shiv Sena and MNS created a big ruckus and went to the extent of selling meat outside Jain temples (Derasars). Sena chief Uddhav Thackrey went ahead and said to the Jains that if we uproot you then you will go fall in the Bay of Bengal. As a result, all Gujarati, Marwadi and Jain areas in Mumbai voted for BJP and Sena lost. Then a few months ago there was the Maratha Silent March (Mook Morcha). Sena mouth piece Saamna printed a very hurtful cartoon against the Maratha community. Uddhav should have quickly apologized but did not. As a result, even in 'safe' areas of the Sena, a lot of Sena candidates lost as many Marathi people did not vote for Sena. Then the other big issue is the quality of roads for last 15 years. Sena always gives some excuse but does nothing about the bad roads. In fact they repeatedly gave contracts for road and bridge maintenance to black listed contractors. Shiv Sena also acted very hoitty toitty during the last MLA elections in the state. Finally they had to accept whatever BJP have them as ministerial seats. Right now the rumours are rife that Shiv Sena will take support of the Congress. Or even go with NCP if required but they want to have their mayor. What Uddhav is not seeing is that if Shiv Sena joins hands with Congress or any others like NCP - who Balasaheb was always against - then Shiv Sena will be wiped clean from the political scene in the next MLA elections. Then there is talk about Shiv Sena withdrawing support of the current BJP government. Uddhav should realize that entire Maharashtra rejected them in the just concluded Zilla Parishad and Municipal elections, and so doing such acts of taking back support will only hurt Shiv Sena and not BJP. Anyway, this is my take... |

Re: So what is happening post BMC elections in Mumbai?
The shiv sena should have joined forces with MNS after Raj Thackeray offered them alliance. Together they could have got the requisite 114 seats. But Uddhav was overconfident and immature.

Sena better show work or be ready to be wiped out. People are slowly but surely rejecting just talk, caste, etc.. in favor of development and real work. As it is they are a family party, not cadre based where the best comes up on top and keeps the grass root workers enthusiastic.

Re: So what is happening post BMC elections in Mumbai?
For once, let us leave Mumbai without a mayor or any civic body. I am pretty sure at the end of another 5 yrs, things wouldnt be any worse than they are. In fact, I wouldnt be surprised if they improved

Re: So what is happening post BMC elections in Mumbai?
Municipalities have far outlived their purpose .. there is hardly any municipal body doing an outstanding job. It should be abolished and just bring in private players with performance based renewal.. difficult to implement? WTF is easy?

Re: So what is happening post BMC elections in Mumbai?
There were already posters about Sena allying with Congis elsewhere. Uddhav really does not get it.

Uddhav denied that SS had approved the posters where he shared poster space with the waitress.
