Wink BJP's vote bank upset over Raj's visit

Looks like Raj is playing clever politics to further screw BJP

BJP's vote bank upset over Raj's visit

By: Varun Singh Date: 2010-12-25 Place: Mumbai

Controversy over Raj's visit to BJP head office refuses to die down; party's primary voter base is still angry at welcome extended by party leaders

In an attempt to appear confident that their voter base is still strong, top-ranking leaders of Mumbai BJP are all set for their rally scheduled for next month in the city.

The recent visit by MNS chief Raj Thackeray to BJP's head office has clearly created a rift between the party and its once strong primary voter base of North Indian migrants, evidenced by some leaders of the community voicing their resentment.

BJP leaders on the other hand, although not visibly distressed at the thought of angering their primary voter base in the city, seem to be implementing some steps to minimize the damage.

Tara Singh, an MLA and Vice President, Mumbai BJP, said, "We are going to hold a meeting before the rally and will convince people to attend.

We are sure that the North Indian voters will never leave us as they have been supporting us and will continue to do so."

Reacting to BJP State President, Sudir Mungantiwar and Senior Leader Vinod Tawde's open armed welcome to Raj Thackeray on Monday, Uday Pratap Singh of Uttar, an organization for North Indians, said, "Raj Thackeray's hatred towards North Indians is evident and his party's ideology has always contradicted us.

North Indians have always been the largest voter base for the BJP in the city, but welcoming the MNS chief, has upset voters".

Singh who is also associated with another political party, claims, "MNS has been bad mouthing North Indians and had started a campaign that encouraged its workers to physically assault them.

All this has created a certain degree of hatred in the minds of the community and when the BJP president says that he welcomes anyone, it will definitely affect the voter base."

Although BJP will not accept the fact, they are quite aware of Raj's negative sentiments towards North Indian migrants and know that their gesture has angered their primary voter base, but still they felt that it was temporary and would blow over.

However, some BJP workers know that if something were not done quickly to save face, this incident would affect them to a large extent during the BMC elections.

"We have a rally scheduled for 16 January 2011, which is expected draw huge support but if our primary voter base does turn up, how will we gather the crowd," said a party leader.

Suresh Gupta, Senior North Indian Leader from the BJP believes that the Raj Thackeray episode will not affect their vote share greatly.

"Everybody is welcome to our party office, and anyone who is prepared to bring changes in their party ideology and assimilate with ours is always welcome.

In this context, our voters know that BJP has always been supporting them and will never abandon them and vice-versa," he said.

Re: BJP's vote bank upset over Raj's visit

Raj wants pawar..but pawar doesnt want him...gadkari wants raj..and raj might get with gadkari to throw SS out of the picture.SS wont have any potential ally,if BJP ties up with MNS.
there was a huge panic in SS camp after this news came and phones started ringing all over.SS are right now,at its weakest and a BJP-MNS ally would have knocked them out ,currently...

Gadkari has now started doing good Politics .

After Bihar's victory, if BJP can show that it can control both Raj and Shivsena, it will give BJP some fighting Power in U.P elections.

Do you think the UP and Biharis in Maharashtra who vote for BJP will accept BJP tying up with MNS? Do you think they will believe that MNS will change its track?

Do you think MNS will change its agenda of throw out UP and Biharis? If they do, for a coalition with BJP, then they lose their locus standi with the Marathi manoos who votes for them due to sympathy for MNS agenda.

No Randheer bhau, panic in Shiv Sena camp is possible, but BJP with MNS is not a good thing for BJP unless by some 'political miracle' there is a change in MNS agenda.

back then bal thackeray was party chief and gadkari was nothing. Now there are new faces..MNS has created its own votebank by mostly hogging into SS votes. If you check the stats of last assembly elections in 2009,it was clear that if MNS had combined with SS-BJP,i would have knocked cong-ncp off.

Your first assumption itself is wrong. Bhaiyas in Maharashtra vote for Congress becaus eof leaders like Kripa Shankar Singh.

Controlling Raj and Shivsena at the same time is to attract Bhaiyas of Uttar Pradesh.

Bhaiyas in U.P always respect Nusiance Value . Mayawati and Mulayam have limitations.

Only Congress and BJP can check Raj and that's why its a good Politics by Gadkari Don't forget BJP is prinicple Opposition Party in Maharshtra ahead of Shivsena.

back then balasaheb was in control, mns did not exist, still bjp-ss combine did not win. right?
now balasaheb is old, mns exists and still bjp-ss combine did not win.

last assembly results, congress+ncp=144, bjp+ss=91, mns=13. if mns did not exist, both coalitions would have been closer but cong+ncp would still be numero uno.

maharashtra has largely been congress' state. when religious passion of hindus get somewhat stirred, bjp comes to power in center and bjp-ss in maharashtra. thats about it i think.

Re: BJP's vote bank upset over Raj's visit

Slight correction there Peace bhai. We need to look at the vote percentage also. MNS may have won only 13 seats but would have cut into BJP-SS votes in many seats. MNS was encouraged by Con and NCP for this purpose only and I believe their tactic succeeded. SS is a spent force with Raj out of the fold.

You are forgetting that the BJP is a national party.....If the BJP joins with Raj who is well known as UP- bihar hater ,then it might gets some gains in maharashtra , but nationally the BJP will lose as north indians will go away from a party which hooks up with Raj.
