Re: Assembly polls in Rajasthan MP Telangana etc

There was an aggressive TV campaign by Congress. I was surprised to see Congress ads playing even on Sudarshan news.
The theme as played by NDTV seems to be that in Rajasthan, mango public is unhappy with Vasundhara Raje but still loves PM Modi.
In Telangana, it is TRS vs Mahakatumi (Gult for Mahagatbandhan) of Congress, TDP and others. One of the ads of this alliance showed a long list of outrageous promises of freebies.

MP, it seems is hung assemble. If what the exit polls are predicting happens, it will be a setback to Modi and his government. Also, the RBI thing is not going to help either. Interesting times ahead.

One thread which got lost in site issues is this
Do Indian farmers deserve all the government subsidies and handouts? by Sutradharji

My comment
Quote:
Mess with farmers and you lose elections. So keep pampering them.
Now pampering is what is happening in new congress states (MP, Rajasthan)- Loan waivers. A sure shot way to win elections. VP singh started that in 89.

Will this lead to Congress winining majority of seats in these states - Watch the 2019 elections for that.

Unhappy Re: Assembly polls in Rajasthan MP Telangana etc

Prime Minister Modi should learn from Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan election results. The learning is quite obvious and I think it is as follows. I don't think I am off the mark by much.

1) Indian rural population is mainly into farming. Thanks to the dirty politics of Congress party since 1947, the farmers have been made used to handouts and subsidies and freebies. Today the farmers assume it as their birthright to get subsidies, loan waivers, handouts.

So dear Modiji, please stop being a statesman and honest politician - Only talk about loan waivers around election times. Pappu did and won.

2) Farmers do not pay tax on anything, especially on farm produce, as we never taxed the 'always poor farmer' who has 'always suffered greatly' under the 'zamindaars' (landlords) since time immemorial.

So dear Modiji, though you never talk about farmers paying tax like all other idiots who are salaried or conduct some business; when its election time, do talk about giving farmers a small percentage of the GST collected nationwide. These 'poor under-dog' farmers need our help

3) Farmers get subsidies on fertilizers and seeds and many other things. So they are also into business like say a factory owner who buys raw material and converts it into a end product. But no, our farmers were always 'Jai Kisaan' and so what they are doing is far more important than God!

So dear Modiji, next time, please talk about complete subsidy or complete free cost for fertilizers and seed. After all, these 'sons of the soil' are turning dust to gold (and in some cases potatoes to gold) and serving all of mankind.

4) When a businessman buys goods and sells them for a profit, he is dependent on the market rate and competition. He has to adjust the sale price to remain competitive. Some times the market price is lower and the businessman has to bear lesser profits to remain competitive and sell his wares. But no, our farmers want a 'guaranteed rate' for selling onions, tomatoes, garlic, ginger, milk, etc etc. Afterall, why think of them as doing business like other businessmen? Why apply same logic and rules to farmers? Remember, they are 'poor sons of the soil' doing God's work.

So dear Modiji, please promise Rs 5 more than what Pappu promises. You can always run the currency printing presses overnight at full capacity to print this extra money. Economics? Who the heck cares! The farmers don't so why should you. We are there, the idiot tax payers, to fund our 'Jai Kisaans'

There are more learnings from the urban population, which I will note here at another time. For now, just know that you have to empty the coffers but ensure that our poor farmers get all the freebies, loan waivers, subsidies and yes, some extra cash so that they can buy motor cycles, go see movies like Sairat multiple times (and make it a 300 crore plus box office super hit) and then afford throwing milk and onions and vegetables on the road when you do not agree to their guaranteed rate.

Remember, if you do not do the above, even God will lose elections in case He decides to run India.

Unhappy Re: Assembly polls in Rajasthan MP Telangana etc

Part 2 - Prime Minister Modi should learn from Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan election results. The learning is quite obvious and I think it is as follows. I don't think I am off the mark by much.

1) Indian urban voters do care a bit about corruption and government efficiency as they face the effects of corruption every day. For example, bad roads full of potholes with contracts given to blacklisted contractors repeatedly by local municipal authorities. Prime example is Mumbai city where Shiv Sena rules the municipal corporation but has not been able to give good city roads for the last 20 plus years

So dear Modiji, if you are going to a coalition with a party which runs the local municipal corporation then please ensure that they do their job well and not just corruption in awarding contracts to nefarious blacklisted contractors.

2) Urban small businessman/trader/retailer/wholesaler/etc all want the ease of evading some or all of the various taxes applied to businesses. They talk of corruption by tax authorities, sometimes go on strike against some taxies and levies, and will call for a clean administration. But please remember that they DO NOT want any system like the GST or changes to rules which make it very difficult to evade taxes.

So dear Modiji, just like Pappu talks of cancelling GST, please talk of some such non-sense because all our businessmen really want to evade some or all taxes. You talk of non corruption and these businessmen voted you for that. But when it was time to actually root out corruption, these same people DO NOT really want to end the current corrupt system. For example, you made a rule that a business cannot deliver goods with just a 'kaccha' or 'temporary' receipt but a proper delivery challan with proper invoice when goods are dispatched via transportation vehicles (trucks/trains/tempo/etc). This is a 'inconvenience' for our non-corrupt businessmen

So during election times, please make promises which will make our non-corrupt businessmen feel good and vote for you again.

3) Our dear farmers want fantastic guaranteed rates for their farm produce. If they do not get it they throw their produce like milk, onions, vegetables on the road to protest.
So many charity organisations like those formed by actors Nana Patekar and Makrand Anaspure immediately blame the government and go help these poor farmers. And there are many who just blame the 'agricultural cooperatives' of being corrupt and cheating the poor farmers.

But this is all known to you. What is perhaps not known to you is that our urban citizenry immediately starts crying and complaining about 'inflation' and high prices of vegetables, milk, lentils (daal) and other food items. These same people feel bad about farmers, but are not willing to pay more so that the poor farmers can get their guaranteed rates.

So dear Modiji, please keep your economics text books and your finance minister away during elections. Just throw money at these poor farmers and subsidise everything so that the urban voters can keep buying food items at low prices. You can always raise taxes after winning elections and recover the money. You will have 5 years more to figure out how to woo the voters again. In this respect you need to learn from Congress party on how to repeatedly fool the voters every 5 years.

4) Petroleum products are priced in every country based on the international price of crude oil. Offcourse every nation applies some local taxes on top of imported crude. But the basic point that price changes with international market price is a concept which many understand, but do not agree to in real life. Since 1947, the Congress party has bankrupted institutions and tax payers just to keep a semblance of 'low fuel prices'. Our people are used to everything at lower than market price. Even God cannot change that attitude.

So dear Modiji, again I beg you to throw away your economics text book during election times. Please remove all taxes on imported crude or reduce them very much so that our Mera Bharat Mahan slogan shouting people can get fuel at lower prices than Arab oil producing countries and vote you back in power. Once you win, you will have 5 more years to figure out how to recover the losses. Please ask your favorite assistant Amit Shah to learn a few things from Congress.

In conclusion: There are many many more learnings, but I am sure, that by now you have realized that all your efforts at a clean administration and rooting out corruption need to be slowed down or abandoned during elections. You are a man way ahead of the times. Ideally, you should have been born at least 50 years from now. Your honest efforts and selflessness would be more appreciated in a worse place like Pakistan but not in India. You are doing great things for India, but we Indians are not ready for greatness. Please let us keep living with our caste preferences, corrupt practices, subsidies on everything and government handouts. Jai Hind!
