Guru is needed by people who have NO time for introspecting. I have plenty of time.

I have plenty of time. So did Vivekananda. Here is a fascinating account of his meeting Sri Ramakrishna.

Re: Do you have a Guru ?

What is at the core of Hindu spirituality? ... Karma ... Nirvana ... Yoga ... and Maya. You cannot achieve one without seeking rest of the three. You cannot discuss one without including other three. You need a guru who understand all 4 core concepts of our Hindu spirituality ...

Re: Do you have a Guru ?

First of all, there is nothing like "Hindu Spirituality". Spirituality is same for whole world. All these concepts apply to all... Only expressions/interpretations are different in different religions.... Ultimate path is only ONE not restricted to any religion.

I beg to disagree if I was to put it mildly. You're being very narrow minded and unfair to impose your sense of spirituality upon followers of other religions, faiths, and belief systems. Spirituality is difficult to define as it is ... as is obvious from two current threads ... and to impose it upon those who do not follow our faith is unnecessary and uncalled for.

Do you play that old song which goes something like SABH KO SANMATI DE BAGWAN BECAUSE TERO NAME IS ISHWAR ........ ? You do, I do, not many others will sing or play that song. You may actually have immediate neighbors who will object to the song. There are some who refuse to sing our national anthem and rightfully so because parts of it go against very core values of their religion.

Okay ... I will let you win (partially) and go so far as to admit that most eastern religions and faiths do tend to follow four core concepts which form its spiritual base ... Karma, Maya, Nirvana, and Yoga. Hope you feel good now. :

You might find this interesting read.

Sorry, I was not trying to impose my thoughts on anyone. I had some other reference while I made that post. May be I couldn't express effectively.

one can read tons of books on swimming but will get cold feet when brought to swimming pool. the real experience is different from what is read or heard. so while a person may think he knows all about karma or maya it would be a different experience to progress spiritually in guru's guidance I would think.

Re: Do you have a Guru ?

This is so pathetic. Man does not want to do any work. For cleaning house, get ramp or maid, for car, get driver. For finding direction in life, he wants guru. Be your own guru. Take the time out and introspect.

Not our fault ... we are guilty ... all of us. Because we know our religion to be the oldest ... we like to believe (without malice in our heart) that all the rest of the religious philosophies are either influenced or are offshoot of our ancient faith? This places us at great disadvantage in understanding faith and beliefs of others?

And thanks ... appreciated.

Books are important and so are teachers to guide you ... no? As kids, even Kabir and Rahim ke simple dohe had to be read and meaning explained to us by the teacher. I read books till 6th grade ... 6 middle class teachers ... You went on to collage and universities ... you read thick books under the able guidance of many professors. I became part time waiter and part time car park attendant ... rest of you became doctors, judges, lawyers, engineers, philosophers, psychologists and psychiatrists and scientists vagerah vagerah kind of oonche log.

Of course we need a guru ... and we also need to read to expand ... no?

Question: why are you seeing a guru? Or why do you need a guru? Provide compelling reasons.

yes, agreed badripai. what I meant to say is that there is more to it than limiting oneself to reading and interpreting on own. thanks for clarifying.

I don't yet know for sure if or why I need guru. I am exploring if others have any experience in this area. I occasionally come across references (within his and last century) that a certain person (indian or firangee) found an indian guru and grasped the true nature of such and such. I know my grandma had a guru. So just exploring. I did always have great respect for guru shishya parampara, though the parampara was not limited to spirituality.
