Thumbs down Raj Thackeray opposes Jet Airways layoffs

This idiot has found a new issue to harp on.

Jet laid of 1000 crew. His demand take them back else you cannot fly out of bombay. The airline industry is severely bleeding. what are they supposed to do? this fool will make sure that if his demand is met then "jet" is history

This guy is smart. He is doing all this for a reason, which is - establish a labour union backed by MNS in the airlines industry. He is doing that as he he has failed to oust Shiv Sena backed unions in the BEST bus transport. So he is trying his hand at the airlines.

Raj Thackrey has jumped in the fray to make a place for his party MNS in the labout unions. CITU, a communist run labour union is already in the Jet Airways fray.

Now Congress too joins the bandwagon.

Congress slams Jet Airways' hire-and-fire policy
16 Oct 2008, 2119 hrs IST,PTI

NEW DELHI: With the sacking of nearly 1900 of its staff by Jet Airways turning into a political sensitive issue ahead of elections, a worried Congress on Thursday disapproved of the hire-and-fire policy and bluntly told the industry that "India is not America".

"Hire and fire is not a proper labour policy...Hiring them recklessly and then firing them recklessly is not proper. We do not approve this," Congress media department chief M Veerappa Moily told reporters.

Moily said leave alone the sacking of the employees of the airline, this was not good for any industry of the country.

"The career of youngsters is at stake...There should be a proper corporate thinking before hiring them and drawing up the expansion plan of the airline," Moily said.

Asked whether Congress favoured liberal labour laws as demanded by the industry, Moily said "India is not America...We have to have proper safeguards for labour. There (America's) economy has been hit badly but we have been protected due to the same safeguards," the Congress leader said.

One thing we have to understand is that capitalism is harsh when it comes to job security. While we all in India wish to reap the benefits of the open economy and capitalist way of doing business, we dont want to face the reality of the other side of this.

By forcing private companies to behave in the old socialist ways when it comes to layoffs, we are sending mixed signals - Oh please do business and bring about prosperity but at the same time we dont care if you go in loss.

raj, congress and CPI can all suck each others dicks and aholes! this is how these morons run govt. companies:

Quote:

AI sweetens exit pill for 15,000 staff

HYDERABAD: National carrier Air India on Thursday added to the country's aviation gloom but found a creative way of shedding flab.

Air India claimed it was not sacking employees or laying them off but was planning to ask them to sit out without salaries. The airline's CMD, Raghu Menon, said a voluntary leave scheme under which nonoperational employees could go on leave for three to five years without pay and then join back was being put into motion. As many as 15,000 employees would be eligible to opt for this scheme.

The merged AI-Indian Airlines entity has a total of 33,000 employees. The proposed scheme is yet to be placed before the board for approval. "The proposed scheme would not cover employees in operational areas like pilots, engineers and cabin crew. Leave applications will be cleared by the management subject to their requirement," Air India spokesman Jitendra Bhargava said. He said it would be difficult to estimate the savings AI expects to make from this move as that would depend on the number of people who opt for the scheme and their salaries.

"We have initiated a number of cost-cutting measures and this scheme is part of that. No one will lose his or her job," AI spokesman Jitendra Bhargava aid. Air India has also decided to go in for expansion only from next winter, that's if the global and domestic economic outlook improves by then.

The airline lost over Rs 2,100 crore during the last financial year. It has sought an equity infusion of Rs 1,000-1,500 crore from the government along with a soft loan of about Rs 1,000 crore.

Currently, all airlines are battling huge losses and looking at every possible way of cutting costs. During the last financial year, Indian Airlines lost Rs 4,000 crore and this time the figure is likely to be as high as Rs 10,000 crore.

Ever since aviation fuel prices started escalating this April, airlines began returning planes and cutting flights. Now with a global economic meltdown having set in and chances of revival of fortunes not on the horizon, the carriers have begun laying off staff.

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/A...ow/3602424.cms
so, the parasites in the govt. run shitty airlines get to keep their jobs with the taxpayers money - some of which is tax money collected from these private airlines and their employees! irony at its height!

suck on this:

AI:

fleet size: 105+63 (on order)
destinations served: 81
flights per day: 400-500 (max)
employees: 33000

Southwest:

fleet size: 539
destinations served: 64
flights per day: 3400
employees: 34000

same number of employees serving 5 times more aircrafts and operating 7 times more flights! productivity makes all the difference!

Babaji, this is India and this is soclialism at its best In India we all want foreign investment, private enterprise, shopping malls, multiplexes, but we dont want the pain which comes with it. We dont want to feel the pinch.

So though our market is becoming open and economy is moving away from socialist closed economy to a open capitalist economy, our mindset is still the same old socialist 'Workers of the World Unite' type.

When Soviet Russia went from USSR to a free democracy, the overnight change brought about a economic carnage and people were not ready. India has been fortunate and has had some time for the changes to happen. We did not go from closed protectionist economy to open door economy within a year or a month. We took some time and that has allowed us to accept. However, our politicians will not understand or embrace open economy because it wont allow them to do such stupid stunts and make political hay.

So to answer your question - Jet Airways will have to raise fares to pay for these extra employees and if that does not work out, then Jet will have to fold up. Sad, true, but can't help it.

Re: Raj Thackeray opposes Jet Airways layoffs

Thanks to these politicians(Thokres, Banerjees, Lalus) , the state they come from suffer badly. Hopefully this behaviour restricts to the state level.

So far Maharashtra was not impacted that badly but this continues then who knows, Companies like jet airlines and other may leave the state and go some other state.

The one upmanship between Thokres will hurt the common man and I am sure the politicians like Lalu, Amar Singh, Abu Azmi will exploit that to the fullest.

Jai Maharashtra!

Pot calling the kettle black?

Quote:
Raj Thackeray a mental case, ban MNS: Lalu

New Delhi, October 19: : Condemning the attack on railway board examination centres in suburban Mumbai by MNS activists, Railway Minister Lalu Prasad demanded a ban on the outfit, saying its chief Raj Thackeray was a ‘mental case’.
"I strongly condemn the incident. There should be an inquiry into the attack. There should be strong action against that party...MNS should be banned," the Minister told reporters.

His comments came as a response to the attack on 13 railway board examination centres in suburban Mumbai by MNS activists who protested "inadequate representation" to locals and chased away candidates from north India.

Prasad said the directions of the Supreme Court or any other courts did not have any impact on the MNS leader. "We can see such incidents when the elections are near," he said.

The Minister said he had spoken to Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh who assured him of a proper inquiry into the incident.
