Mumbai: with 41 bullets, he almost boards a plane

MUMBAI, SEPTEMBER 18: YOU would think that one week after Black Tuesday, a pin would be difficult to get through a maximum-security alert handled by about 40 elite commandos from the Indo Tibetan Border Police and a posse of jumpy state police personnel at one of the most sensitive airports in the country. Not so, in Mumbai.

In a shocking security lapse today, a passenger was able to walk right up to a Jet Airways flight bound for Hyderabad with 41 live bullets of a .22 revolver in his hand-baggage before he was apprehended by airline security.

Bharat Vedanata walked through the metal detector at the main gate, through the security hold area of the Jet Airways terminal where his hand baggage was cleared by the X-ray machine.
