Even if true, did United know about it beforehand? If not, it's immaterial and not a factor.

I've lived in Louisville where Dr. Dao was headed, I'd have taken 1000 bucks per seat, rented a car and driven home with wife from ORD (about 5 hours drive). Alas, I'm not as smart as Hindustani nor as lucky as Dr. Dao.

Re: United airlines passenger dragged out of flight

The link I gave you above, below on that page, are many interesting public opinions, worth-reading.

Two things here.

a) Guy was a Maaheer Tharkey and he knew it well that, this is the right time to play a racism card and make a hoopla and can be made a big fortune in court cases, n’ thereafter law-suing recovery from such a giant corporate. ( reminds me, da similar Taanga-toli nautanki-drama of Khujaliwaal, saying... ' Modi ordered it' ) Otherwise, he had also left the plane, a very civil way like others, with whatever reasonable compensation. [ Long ago, I was at NY airport ( for flying back to India ) and this kind of inconvenience had happened from the Airlines side and they had declared a free ticket next time, if you will pardon them and can go home, now ]

b) Whoever was the guy, ( and, his past history) let say a serial killer / drug mafia / Smuggler or any highest culprit, it has nothing to do with this present case, as whatsoever ( unless, he has done smthg on the plane right-now ) other case is going on for him outside, that court and judge’s look-out to tackle that other past/preceded case.
UA is using this poor excuse, to investigate him as a person and trying to save their own arses, but in fact, that case has absolutely nothing to do with, whatever happened here and today, and the past should have no impact, in this particular case’s evaluation.

No no this one seems true .. I was hearing 1B losses in market cap but that seemed exaggerated.

Quote:

United UAL, -1.13% wiped about $255 million off its market capitalization in Tuesday’s session, leaving it with a market cap of around $22.25 billion, according to FactSet data.

The company’s stock has lost 0.2% for the week, compared with the S&P 500 SPX, -0.14% — the broad U.S. stock benchmark — declining less than 0.1% for the week.

Early Tuesday ahead of the market’s open, United’s stock had been down by as much as 6% in premarket trading, before paring its losses.

Investors largely shrugged on Monday at the widespread criticism of United, as the airline’s stock ended Monday’s session 0.9% higher, adding about $200 million to the company’s market cap. So for the week, the company’s market cap hasn’t been reduced by that much.

Well, everyone has to realize that nothing is private anymore with cell phones (cameras) all around and most importantly, we live in an 'outrage' trigger happy world .. we are ready to be outraged in no time. Not condoning what happened but it's the truth.

Imagine this video shot by a co-passenger: United air staff (caucasian) in uniform abusing a passenger, and he/she happens to be black .. how much outrage will this video generate? Almost as much.

Air staff dancing during flight .. huge issue some time back.

That is complete and utter bullshit.

The analogy would be like this. A bakery bakes 100 cookies, but sells it to 110 customers because it knows that some of the customers may not show up on time to pick up their cookies. If more than 100 customers do show up, they reserve the right to deny customers the cookies they bought. On top of that, if an employee is hungry, they get to eat the cookie before the customer who bought and paid for it!

What horseshit!
In fact, aren't the airlines actually double-dipping If they are over-booking seats because people cancel and they have to fly with empty-seats... don't those canceled tickets generate them revenue when they charge cancellation-fees? Isn't that double-dipping

Actually, it sounds like triple-dipping. You have a very valid point.

First dip is when Person A books. Second dip when Person B is overbooked on the same seat. Third dip is when Person A cancels! At least, they should allow no-cost cancellations and re-booking!!

no-cost cancellations will be crazy .. imagine never finding a seat anywhere. People book and cancel without making plans.

Christie tees off on 'awful' United Airlines in wake of uproar

Christie sent a letter Tuesday to Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, saying that his state is looking into action to prevent what he called the “abusive practice” of overbooking, and requested that the administration suspend airlines' ability to overbook.
