Re: Run Black Money Run!

I read somewhere that about 68000 crore has come out as a part of IDS scheme. this excludes the 2000core that one family in mumbai recently declared and 16000crore that another gujju declared. the gujju says he was declaring 16000crore for some people and that 16000crore is just the tip. sooooooo I cannot believe 75% has come out.

I think it could be like Indira's garibi hatao campaign.. some from the rich and middle class will lose faith but may get huge support from the poor class.

Short term issues I think, should be resolved in a month or so.

Actually we Indians are big time hypocrites. Exactly like Modi said we all say very good move by Govt but try to find a way in private.

I spoke to a few colleagues (working in IT in USA) whose family in India are small to medium scale businesses like textile whole seller, private money lending, chemist shops, school stationary and lab equipment supplier, etc.. All of them said they found a way for most of petty cash to be adjusted via jewelers, servants, toll bridges, ration shops, gas stations, etc etc. One guy said his home has become like a ration shop, only need to buy vegetables and milk from here on for next 2-3 years.

Re: Run Black Money Run!

Modi and his Govt has really fudged up this otherwise good step of demonetizing higher denomination notes without notice. They are continuously jumping from one thing to another. Most recent being, planning a "lottery" of 1 Cr to citizens for cashless mode of payment.

Even SIMPLE steps have not been taken to ease things for public. Majority of ATMs are not working and/or are permanently "out of cash".
  • Order all DMs (district magistrate) to ensures that all ATMs in his district are up & running.
  • DMRC (delhi metro rail corp) should be ordered to ensure all ATMs on metro stations are up & running. Supposedly 50L people travel by it daily.
  • Malls, Cinema Halls, public places - should be ordered them to ensure all ATMs are up & running.
  • Order all BJP MPs / MLAs to ensure that ATMs in their constinuency are up & running.
  • In each category, penalize defaulters and give awards for maximum compliance.

We all know that this demonetization move would have been useless without the "surprise". But no one is fool to not see that the people have been left in a lurch. Stop taking public for granted Mr. Modi & BJP.

Re: Run Black Money Run!

Modi is perhaps the best candidate to do anything like this. He doesn't have a family to leave a large sum for. Other than suspected crony capitalism nexus with Ambanis, Adanis and his need to remain in limelight, he needs closeness to famous people like Bachchans, other than that he should be able to let the law take it course, whoever it is.

This will boomerang if the lowest denominator is the only one suffering. People need to see action against some politicians, bureaucrats, other famous people who have illegally amassed wealth.

Otherwise a good move, common man needs to feel that it is fair to them, and then need to see some light at the end of the tunnel. The swift follow through is not there.

The Govt can ensure the daily spending such as doodhwalla, subzi, barber can still gon on in cash. Any transaction over 5K, there is no reason not to do this through banking channels. They also need to reduce taxes so people don't find incentive to accumulate black money and eventually scrap 2000 note. Leave upto 500 rupee denomination.

Venezuela scraps country's largest banknote to thwart mafia menace
Venezuela will scrap its largest banknote -- the 100 bolivar bill -- in a bid to tackle the mafia menace, President Nicolas Maduro said on Sunday.

"In accordance with my constitutional powers and through this emergency economic decree, I have decided to take the 100 bolivar bill out of circulation in the next 72 hours," the president said Sunday on his TV show "Contact with Maduro," the president said on his TV show 'Contact with Maduro'.

The country is preparing to issue new banknotes and coins of a much higher value, up to 200 times, than the highest denomination currently available. The 100 bolivar bill's worth is fewer than three cents of a dollar at current market rates. One would need a stack of 50 notes to buy a hamburger.

Maduro said the decision was made after an investigation found billions of bolivars stashed away by international mafias, mainly in Colombian cities but also in Brazil.

He accused national banks of being accomplices in the "plot" and said they were seeking to "destabilise" the economy.

Jose Guerra, an opposition lawmaker, wrote on Twitter that the central bank must have an equivalent amount of higher currency notes to switch from the 100 bolivar notes. He said he did not believe that the exchange could be possible in such a short amount of time.

Venezuela is in economic crisis due to a falling oil prices.

The International Monetary Fund has forecast the inflation rate will hit 475 per cent by the end of this year.

for now, while the money is still getting printed to be in circulation at the same level as before demonitisation, as much as possible should be cashless.

One thing is that no matter how much preparation would have been done, there would still have been a lot of criticism in jack of preparation. So, he just let you n a surprise. The proper impact would be known at the end of 2017, but the downside is one time inconvenience.
