Wink Raj Thackeray finds support in Mumbai's Muslims

Raj Thackeray finds support in Mumbai's Muslims

Raj Thackeray is now showing his true political acumen and going after Muslim votes. While this might create a problem for Congress, I predict that after the elections and depending on Raj's pary MNS performace at the polls, the Congress will offer Raj to join them as an ally. And I wont be surprised if Raj decides to join either VilasRao Dehmukh or Sharad Pawar's party which is part of the ruling coalition in Maharashtra.

Quote:
Mumbai, November 18: : Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) may have ruffled many feathers with its anti-North Indian campaign, but has found support in Mumbai's Muslim community.

The growing support for the party in the megapolis's Muslim-dominated areas like Umerkhadi and Dongri, is sure to give the ruling Congress-NCP a hard time during elections. The Muslim-dominated areas saw a lower voter turnout during last year's civic body elections.

More than 2000 Muslims have enrolled as party activists in the last 3-4 months, said MNS Vibhag Pramukh (unit leader), Virendra Patil, of the newly formed Mumbadevi assembly constituency after delimitation.
Mumbadevi comprises areas like Dongri, Umerkhadi and Bhendi Bazar with over 70 per cent of the population being Muslim.

Disillusioned with the Congress, NCP and SP, Muslims are finding MNS as an alternative, Patil said. "Besides, our activists help locals in every possible way by organising cleanliness drives among other things," he said."Of the 65 per cent of Muslims in Umerkhadi, a majority of them hail from Konkan. They support Raj Thackeray's stand that priority should be given to locals in jobs," he added.

Patil said he was a candidate in Municipal Ward Number 221 (Umerkhadi) in last year's election and finished second. "We have the grass-root support and hope to do very well in the forthcoming elections," he added. In municipal elections, MNS bagged 7300 votes in six wards of Mumbadevi assembly segment, he said.

"Our votes will increase three times in the next Lok Sabha and assembly polls," he said. Zakir Habia, MNS Shakha (divisional) President of Ward Number 220, said the party was not communal.

"Rajsaheb says locals should be given priority in Maharashtra. If the burgeoning migrant population does not stop, locals will have no alternative but to go around with a begging bowl," Habia, a scrap dealer, said.

Zakir said north Indian activists of MNS feel that unchecked migration was causing trouble to locals. "All we want is that the flow of migrants to the state should stop so that locals living here since long, irrespective of their native language, can survive," he said. "Why can't UP and Bihar provide job opportunities to its people," Zakir asked.

He said Muslims are happy with MNS because its cadre helps them to solve their local problems and civic issues. Sharif Deshmukh, Deputy Vibhag Pramukh of Mumbadevi assembly constituency said MNS had enrolled over 400 women activists in the last few months.

"Educated Muslims from Konkan and Gujarat who have been living in the state for many generations and are involved in small businesses agree that they face trouble due to the continuous onslaught of migrants," Deshmukh said adding that UP Muslims living here for several years also say that migration needs to stop.

"Even women are supporting us because we help their children get enrolled in schools," he said adding that there are more than 20,000 Muslim activists of the MNS all over Mumbai.

Re: Raj Thackeray finds support in Mumbai's Muslims

Congress in Maharashtra will be directly affected by Raj and looking at the current political situation chances are that Raj will go with Sharad Pawar.

Either way Congress ke din kharab hai in India.lets see the coming state elections in which the congress is sure to say tata bye bye to power.

Agree.

Days seem numbered for Congress in Maharashtra.

Not to say that NCP does not have its share of problems but yes, with the help of politicians like Raj Thackeray and Vinay Kore (who already has 4 MLA's from his newly formed Jan Surajya Shakti Party supporting NCP) they will get over the line.

Watch out for this guy Vinay Kore in years to come. He is a young visionary guy and if Im not mistaken was one of the youngest MLA's in India, then went on to form his own party and now is one of the youngest Ministers to ever be elected especially with no hereditary political backing.

btw, Raj Thackeray is good buddies with him and met him recently and mentioned that there might be a third front in the state

He will never do that. 90% of his votes (will) come from former SS voters or anti-congress/NCP voters.

raj is smart. he will welcome this specific vote bank with open arms and it will make him look secular. so if he wins inpolls, congress or sharad pawar will have no problem in creating an alliance with secular raj

I think Raj will go with NCP in comming asembly election , directly or indirectly.Next BMC elections you will find NCP alliance with Raj to corner ss.NCP will use Raj to make their way in konkan and Nasik.
I don't think it will be good for state politics.

Re: Raj Thackeray finds support in Mumbai's Muslims

How much this guy will humiliate his uncle. Bala Ji said truly that it is one's own blood which hurts most. This happened with 'Shivaji" also. This is in history of Marathas.

He is no one,all respect he is getting is because of Bala Saheb. The day Bala Sahab dies and he stands one to one with Udhav,he stands no where. Udhav is quite mature compared to him. Udhav can become a national leader.

Calling bad name to UP/Bihar is fine but aligning with congress to prove that his uncle was a non Secular and communal guy is a true betrayal.

After Shvaji/Savarkar/Tilak,Maharstra may have produced lot of Ministers in Congressi governments/chief minster and even presidents, but person who regained Maratha Glory and became an accepted leader all over India was Bala Saheb.

This moron is showing biggest kind of betrayal by spoiling his name.
