what do you think about Bill Cosby getting convicted recently?

on the time front - same question as yours - how far do you go, if you let go crime committed 30 years ago, what about crime committed last year? what about 10 years ago or yesterday?
You prosecute as long as the accused is alive. like this one
A 94-year-old German is to go on trial accused of being accessory to hundreds of murders in a Nazi concentration camp during World War Two, a court in the western city of Muenster said. The man, who has not been named for legal reasons, denies the accusations. He will be tried in a juvenile court, since he was aged less than 21 at the time of the alleged crimes.

Only, as the time goes by, it is tough to gather evidence and witnesses.

yeah... Saneless doesnt agree apparantly. from his post, what I gather is he thinks because this guy supposedly did whatever he did more than 30 years ago, this things should not be brought up - even if it does come up, he should just say "oh sorry, My bad! whoops!" and everybody should get on with their lives, US should have this guy as a supreme court judge now they they have a president who is famous for telling his buddies that the way to deal with women is to grab their pus**s. that is progression of society apparantly - message to everyone, its alright folks, its all in the past now

edit - after 5 min, errrr - too much? I should give Sane time to respond if he wants to before piling on more....

Re: So, what's up?

My response is very simple... people change. The frame of reference has changed. Let me give an example to present my case. Let's say there was a criminal, harsh and very cruel. Then one day he sees JC and get's blessed by the almighty gods themselves... and he sees the bush and becomes enlightened. Now he is a holy seer, no longer harsh... no longer cruel. He has not a single jeans in/on his body from his previous days. All new clothes. Whether he has followers or not is not important. But all he does and think about every day is how to bring about some happiness to the people of the world.

Let's stretch the example a bit more... he is now changing the lives of numerous people... making them happier. Because of him, there are thousands of families well-settled and comfortable. And he is in the process of making millions more happy.

Agreed this is an extreme example... but is he to be held to the same standards as everyone else and prosecuted What about JC and his father? Don't the blessings of the gods mean nothing in a human court of law? And from a practical point of view, are we going to sacrifice the happiness of millions of people to just make happy a person or two

time may pass, things, people may change, what does not change is what actually happened in the past and how it affected people involved. The frame of reference of the incident does not change once it has happened.

JC himself took the punishment for sins of all humans. holy seer huh... you are saying all the bishops in church scandal who abused young boys and scarred them for life should not be prosecuted because it was a long time ago? They are bishops now afterall - certified from the highest authority as men of god, source of happiness for their church flock - easy way for all rapists and murderers then. do whatever they want and then tell everyone they have now become seers, whether they get followers or not is immaterial, enough to show they are 'changing'?

btw if people show remorse for their wrong actions and show they have changed, Law deals with them leniently - not all murderers get death penalty by default - it does not mean criminals should not be prosecuted, just because whatever they did is in the past.

what did you think about Salman khan getting away on killing blackbucks or people sleeping on the footpath? afterall he started a charity Being Human which definitely helps and makes a difference to hundreds if not thousands of people - this is not just someone pretending to have seen/met/envisioned JC/Allah/Krishna and spreading happiness - all of which can be subjective - What Being Human does, is real difference, alleviating situation of people. do you think he should not be prosecuted for killing chinkaras, let alone put in jail?

oh... wait.........

Re: So, what's up?

They did get him... and they got him while the blood of the deer was warm. They got him... and they got him good. The harassment went on for years... and believe me you, he will not too soon jump onto another wagon to go hunt chinkaras... or chilkas. So, his example is not a good one for you to present.

All I am saying is that Valmiki should not be considered a saint... why because he has blood on his hands. Why only limit a person's fault to while s/he is alive Once we know the full story, don't we have the full right to pass the judgement

who is limiting person's faults only when they are alive bhai? the story of Walmiki and his earlier avatar walya is famous.... even though he is supposed to have written ramayana - the greatest epic for hindus, people still remember, talk about and tell stories of how he was a robber before he became a saint. If he really ever lived, his life was as damned - his wife and kids left him and he had to live in forests as a sanyasi rather than in a society - as his name is even centuries later.

we are talking about prosecution and bringing up the charges even if time has passed from when the bad things were done. Walmiki's story proves there is no statute of limitations. the limitation is what you can do physically, if he is not alive then who do you put in the defence dock?

I gave Salman's example because it goes against what you are trying to say - if a person has changed and a lot of time has passed since they did the bad deed, then they should not be prosecuted. The actual crime happened in september 1998, first conviction in 2006 - 8 years later! that case is still ongoing - the last result I heard was in April 2018 - 20 years later! going by your logic, why put him in jail? its 20 years in the past now.... you are right he has not hunted any animals in public focus since then, he has moved on in the world to killing humans sleeping on the footpath - what you dismiss as a traffic accident is blatant disregard for rules of the land, knowing he can get away with it.
