Brazilians go the Indian way........... :)

Upper-caste girl meets Dalit boy. They fall in love. Girl’s evil family objects and tries to marry her off. Boy decides he must fight for his ladylove. It isn’t a Bollywood blockbuster, and it isn’t a television drama from soap diva Ekta Kapoor.
It isn’t even Indian. Welcome to Brazil’s number one soap opera — and first evidence that the relentless march of desi culture has breached a new frontier: South America.
Meet Maya and Bahuan, the protagonists of Caminho Das Indias (India’s Way), a television show that perhaps has Brazilians more excited about India’s caste system than Ronaldinho’s paycheck.
With 60 per cent of the market share, Caminho is currently Brazil’s most watched show. “The show has sparked off a massive interest in Indian culture. People now use words like achha, theek hai and Bhagwan ke liye (for God’s sake) as common slang,” said B.S. Prakash, India’s ambassador to Brazil who’s been inundated with emails from curious Brazilians.
Set in Rajasthan, the show is as authentically Indian as a Barjatya production — except the actors are Brazilians and speak Portuguese, peppered with the Hindi phrases Prakash refers to. To maximise its Indianness, the show’s producers have even added Bollywood-isms to some episodes.
“Like for instance, we don’t show kissing scenes,” said Marcos Schechtman, Caminho’s director. “We cut the scene just at that pivotal moment.”
Schechtman and his crew visited India three times in preparation for the filming, even setting up a workshop with Indian consultants to help the actors understand the ‘Hindu’ way of life.
Caminho’s success is affecting everything and everyone Indian in Brazil.
“Before the show, only people interested in yoga knew about India. Now, we have many more diners coming in. And everyone wants to drink chai,” said Madhava Lila Deva Dasi, who owns a restaurant called Gopala Madhava in Sao Paulo, Brazil’s largest city with 11.1 million people. “Suddenly, Indian costumes and jewellery have become very fashionable.”
For asset manager Amit Maskar (29), a business trip to Brazil turned out to be surprisingly eventful. “I was there only for five days but some 15 people came up to talk to me about the show. One person even played Kajra Re on his phone for me,” said Maskar. “The show is huge there. I’m no Tom Cruise, so it must take a lot for so many hot Brazilian girls to approach me.”

Re: Brazil’s number one TV show is all Indian

its funny...they have shown ganga nadi in rajasthan i also saw a few episodes with subtitles and its damn funny to me with many misconceptions about indian culture.

the only positive thing about this movie is that everybody wants to come to india, bindi and saree are the hottest fashions....zardozi worked ladies kurtas are selling like popcorns..and many young roman catholic brasilians are converting to hinduism.....finally..justice done...

Can they do that ? I thought you got to have Hindu roots for that You are Hindu by birth. No one can get converted into a Hindu, unless he had Hindu roots in past. Do these people belong to Aryan Race ?

As for the serial, I have heard about it from some Brazilians. They find our desi stuff exciting. Someone needs to market our traditions in a proper way; they have lot of international appeal, plus they can make money, and most importantly, world would know the life in India beyond snake charmers and slums.

That is one mistake Hindus did in past. We never spread. Unlike Jews who were spread over different countries but don't have a mother nation, hindus despite having a mother nation didn't spread themselves because of their lazy nature.

We offcourse don't have to spread violently like the Islamic Invaders or through Deceit like Missionaries but we need to spread.

The hindu is obsessed with purity.

While muslims are ready to marry nonmuslims in order to convert them ,we are not.

We are ready to remove our own people out of our own religion at the slightest reason of defiling our purity , while others are ready to welcome them into their religion at all costs.

For example , in the past the christian missionaries used to throw bread into the water and if anybody drank that water , he was immediately declared outcast by our brahmins , for bread was a christian food.............and the christian missionaries would be ever ready with open arms to welcome him.

If anybody was ready to convert to our religion ,we refused , calling him a yavana.

To tell a story......

Chattrapati Shivaji's general netaji palkar decided to join the mughals deserting shivaji.

But on joining the mughals , he was forcibly converted to islam.

He became Mohammad Qulikhan.

But he fled away from the clutches of aurangzeb to join Shivaji again.

On rejoining , he expressed a desire to become a hindu again.

But our stupid brahmins refused to reconvert him because he was now impure.

This inspite of the fact that he had been forcibly converted against his wishes !!

Then the great shivaji did an astonisthing feat ....unheard of in those times.

He held a grand shuddhikaran in which he reconverted netaji to hinduism.......and in order to show that he was doing this not merely for show purposes, he married his daughter to netaji's son !!!!!!!!

The brahmins were left writhing in anger ..... but could do nothing .......

With our brahmins showing such a stupid attitude , no wonder our religion never spread.

I know of a muslim guy who was impressed with hinduism and wanted to convert.

But our brahmins left him confused and floundering when they began to debate as to which caste he should be allowed to belong.

Some suggested BC status........hardly an incentive for him to join.....

Brahmins are themselves confused and thats why supporting Mayawati. .

Shivaji did the right thing as Hinduism is a religion which was supposed to be driven by either the Ruling class or people rising from the lowest strata of Society.

Rama/Buddha/Mahavira/Vishwamitra rose from ruling class then Valmiki/Ved-Vyas/Shirdi Sai Baba all arouse from the lowest strata of society. So Brahmins should just be focussing on day to day poojas only .

It is because the Medival rulers failed to unite and protect the Hindus from Muslim Invaders. Brahmins have to take the lead in protecting Hinduism at loca level which over a period of time resulted in silly rituals.

Re: Brazil’s number one TV show is all Indian

Hinduism was never expansionist and it lacked Political and Millitary Framework based on religion and thats why it didn't expanded beyond India but that doesn't mean it was any way inferior.

We couldn't unite and fight the foreign invaders and lost on progress in science and technology but believe me science is natural to hinduism and thats why 21s century is ours. Hinduism is the most practical religion.

The Invaders from Arabia have snatched our lands while captilist Western forces took our money and wealth and deeply divided us.

We have to win our Wealth back from all our Ex invaders but yes we have to do it Hindu way of peace.

IT Industry's success is one step in that direction and more Gulf labourers should be send to Gulf countries.

I am quite a secular person from inside but I have from my own experiences felt that most of the converts except those who are converted by the edge of sword have some basic flaws in their characters. Most of them have some basic hatred against the Country in which they reside and the prevelant culture.

Countries like India and Israel should not allow these conversions as these are detrimental for the country.

I have always said that India doesn't need imported Gods.

For every Jesus Christ we always have Shirdi Sai Baba who lived, has photographs and is more recent and performed Miracles also. Sai Baba was equally respected by Muslims also.

Sai Baba was from the lowest strata of Society thus proving that any body can rise to the status of being worshipped in his lifetime only by his deeds in India.

Re: Brazil’s number one TV show is all Indian

those mofo portuguese created lt of havoc in goa..forced many poor peasants and workers into catholicism...they put bread in the wells of middle class people..and the co(ksucker relegious heads declared those people as non -hindu who drank water from those wells..

Portuguese were very successful in converting brasilians from their native cultures to christianity easily and its a main stream religion in brazil now..but serials like these ,though fiction..do leave an impact on the minds of common brasilians ,who are impressed with the richness of hindu culture.....and this is the time to show the world the beauty of hinduism.......
