Re: Once a garden city, now the mess that is Bangalore

I was speaking to a friend who lives in B'lore. Here's what he had to say about the traffic situation in bangalore.

Basically, there was a lot of migration from Chennai to Bangalore after the chennai floods. Almost 10-20% of Chennaiians affected by the floods moved to Bangalore. The traffic situation, which was horrible to begin with, became completely gridlocked. Schools are shutting down because children cannot make it to school. It's become a fucking mess.

That's all I have to say about that.

Even offices have that problem. My relative and her daughter left home around 8am, daughter reached school (6kms away) in school bus at around 10:30am, school starts at 9am. Mother reached office at 11:30am, which is around 10 kms away from home.

I have perfect solutions, although a bit costly and claustrophobic. Offices and schools need those sleeper cells like in Japan or something.

Re: Once a garden city, now the mess that is Bangalore

I dont get it... why the surprise? I came to India of my own choice. I stayed back for 4 plus years of my own choice.

Yes, it can come as a surprise to many who have talked to going back to India, or who have tried by moving to India but not making it beyond 6 months at most.

But my situation was different. It was totally personal and my own choice.

Talking Re: Once a garden city, now the mess that is Bangalore

Bangalore I cannot comment on as I have only visited that city very many years ago.

Mumbai is so well managed The traffic police take proper bribes from shop keepers to allow parking and even double parking on the road so that patrons can visit those shops. So people know the road will be fucked and avoid it. This allows for easy flow of traffic (slow but steady) through these areas. Shoppers can park illegally, shop and go. The public is used to getting fucked by the system, so they dont even mind it.

You want real examples/proof? For the above situation come visit Irla Lane or more popularly known as Alfa Galli in Vile Parle West near Cooper Hospital.

Perfect fuck up every day, but traffic crawls steadily. The complete mess is well managed! Kudos to Mumbai traffic police

Circa early 2000s, i found Mumbai traffic better behaved than in Hyderabad (though thats not saying much) Our taxi guy did a 'lane cutting' (my co passenger told him very late to go right) and was promptly fined. Lane jumping is not even considered an offence in Hyd (or for that matter Bangalore). Offence is jumping red light after it is on for over a minute and driving wrong side.

I was a bad Samaritan once when in Bangalore i alerted a peaceful couple to a cop further down when they were going wrong side on a one way.

yes, I saw that happen in the summers of years 2002-2003. When we moved there in 1997, it was really an air-conditioned city, lovely monsoon rainy season time, summers were mild like mid-30s max. but by 2002 it was touching 40.

Pune in 1998 was like that - no need of a fan in summer. But by 2001-2002 , it was all fked up due to MNCs moving there.

I am not surprised NDTV is projecting as if it is happening for the first time.
