Re: Happy Ram-Navmi to all !!

I thought that was pretty straight-forward... a no-brainer. Ram returns victorious to Ayodhya. Ram and Sita haven't had any quiet alone time since she was kidnapped by Ravan. Now you make the connection. In simplistic terms there were celebrations for 9 nights in Ayodhya... dandiya ras

Re: Happy Ram-Navmi to all !!

Earlier we all knew of navratri before Dasera but now these pujaris, pundits and those puja shop owners have added more navratris to increase their cash flow.
People were fasting saying this was the most important navaratri
Fasting eating one meal a day and in between having upwas snacks-fried potatoes and fruits and milk and no prayers

What a joke these things have become now.Everything is mechanical nothing spiritual

The connection is a common date on the Hindu Calendar for diffrent events.

In case of Diwali, it is both Ram Returning to Ayodhya and also Krishna Killing Narkasura. It is also the day when Guru Har Gobind was released from jail. So Sardarjis also ceberate it. Buddhists and Jains also celebrate it, but not sure about the reason.

In case of Dusshehra, it is both Ram Killing Ravan and Durga Killing Mahishasura (City Mysore is named after this and Dusshera is celebrated in a big way there).

Now, coming to Ram Navmi, it is the day when Lord Ram was born. I came to know only after joining my school classmates whatsapp group that it is celebrated as Navratri in the North. It is the 9th day of the Hindu new Year. Will get back with details later. Or some one else could fill in the meantime.

So asking now. What is the significance of Navratri after Gudi padva.

The nine forms of Durga worshipped during Navratri .. And Hindu calendar begins (vikrami samvat 2072 began this year) .. So celebrate first 8 days with fasting and 9th day as Ram's birthday.

The New Year is first day after the Amavas in the month of Chaitra. March 21st this year.

Rest from copy paste.. Navratri, the festival of nine nights is dedicated to Goddess Durga and her nine forms. The nine days have great religious significance as Goddess Durga, the divine mother, had destroyed the evil force (in the form of the demon Mahisashura) during this period.

Wait. Is that not during Dusshehra. That is why Bengalis (and others) also do Durga Pooja.
