Why I Left India (Again)

Read this article written by a desi techie who moved back to India from Bay area and then this chicken along with quitter family went back to CA again.. prolly wifey couldn't handle in-laws and relatives..

Quote:
Why I Left India (Again)

The Hindi movie on my “return to India” flight on Dec. 13th, 2006 was “Swades” (literally: “My country,” a story about a patriotic NASA engineer who returns to India to help improve his homeland).

The idea that you can fix India’s problems by adding more people to it — even smart people — is highly suspect. No, I wasn’t going back to fix things; I was leaving the U.S. to go back to Shri Thomas Friedman’s India: an India that offered global companies, continental food, international schools and domestic help; an India that offered freedom from outsourcing and George W. Bush.

I was excited about moving to India and I thought I had the right expectations—after being away for eleven years (I grew up in Mumbai), I was prepared for India to feel less like home and more like the flight’s “Indian vegetarian meal”: visually familiar but viscerally alien.

Re: Why I Left India (Again)

WHat's so wrong about it? Even today, despite all the India shining, you get nothing for your taxes. Roads are as shitty, newly constructed flyovers develop potholes within a couple of months and the infrastructure sucks big time. Instead of forging full steam ahead with civilian nuclear power, there are more court petitions to stop building power plants while 'enjoying' load shedding

Lets face it, India is nice as a vacation to visit family and friends once every year or couple of years. If you dont want stupid unnecessary hassles like long commute times, shitty roads, no basic infrastructure then do not return to India.

Thumbs up Re: Why I Left India (Again)

Sad story

It's horrible that once you settle outside India.......it is not easy to come back & start a new life in your home country.

Sometimes relatives or dependents do not help to let you stay long there too.

Just think about your returning future in India & plan the same way.

Whats wrong with you? You got married and didn't even bother to consult those among us who have committed the mistake? You gave up precious bachelorhood for a woman? You crazy or something? You ugly ... couldn't get nothing for free? Yes, you must be ugly to be so desperate. Have you really gotten married or still contemplating? I suggest you reconsider. Look at our Ashdocji ... each weekend a new girlfriend and a new movie. Don't you envy him?

Congrats ... we wish you both all the happiness in life. Nothing like your own woman to grow old with. Cherish her. All the best.

Congratulations on your marriage, Sarvisukthinaam pai.

I think you misunderstood the point the blog guy was making. And he is making a very valid point. I am of the same opinion too... I agree with him completely. It is not the poverty or the dirtiness or the society or anything that he is complaining about. He is okay and has come to terms with all that. But when you start to lose your identity... your own inner self... I think it is time for a rethink.

As for me, I try not to stay in India that long that I lose this identity. And I know it will happen... I will become one of them... yes them... the same them that I do not want to become. I want to be me... me so that I can go around berating them. But the day I become them... who do I berate
