I was in Delhi in September-October 2018.. Reliance JIO Cellular plan is mind blowing. Rs. 249 for 28 day prepaid plan which included 1.5gb data per day and unlimited calls (National) including 100 texts per day.

That's like $4 for a SIM! Activation is immediate. My sis had procured 4 of them for me and my family.. I got one for the iPad as well ...

One wonders what kind of data theft must be happening.. when I created my first email on yahoo.com in 1997, I couldn't believe it was free. Even a postcard costed Rs. 1-2. Over time I did get it that they are using our data and gawd only knows what else.

Similarly I wonder what Reliance is doing with all this data, pretty much doling out free bandwidth. daal me something something kaala.

Just like those Chinese phones and huawei routers sending data to China's servers.

China's Huawei and ZTE pose national security threat, says US committee

Anyway.. Ashika ji.. all the best and God bless you for your visit to shitty Delhi.

Despite Modi in charge, Delhi is still a dirty shitty place with dirty shitty fake people. Sorry if it offends you.. Sorry, for me India means Mumbai and that's it.

Yes do go to museums and places as suggested here... but do visit Shit Sthal, Shakti Sthal and other Sthals which are cemeteries of all the asshole leaders of Congress who died. You might get a deeper understanding of how blessed you are to live outside Delhi and how you should never ever think of settling down back in India or rather Delhi

Please bear in mind Reliance Jio uses VoLTE - the handset you use must have have VoLTE and been enabled by reliance on their network for VoLTE - if not then your voice calls will not work. also, reliance will only work where there is 4g coverage, probably not a problem in delhi but if roaming in surrounding areas, on the road between cities for example, it might be a problem.

I suspect Reliance's game is slightly longer term. They have decimated the cellular market in India already. Only big players remain, smaller ones have gone... even big players like Idea and Vodafone have had to merge to compete.

I had a similar deal with Airtel too. Possibly slightly less data .6 GB per day or do, but worked for me.
Aashika’s, check if you can latch on to cards and mobiles of your parents or in laws. This leads to another question- where are you landing in India.

Kkkk suggested picking up a cellphone sim in airport, but there was no outlet when we landed st Hyderabad in the morning. Only open thing is duty free shop. Everything is after you exit the airport, by which time, all the can guys with ridiculous rates are out to fleece you.

Re: Visiting Delhi...advise needed please!

Thank you thank you thank you! I will respond to every post.

I have reserved table in Bukhara for April. I will not miss it. Aksharadanam...I honestly didnt know it was there in Delhi. I do like their temple near my place in Canada, very artistic I must say. Looks like Delhi one is much bigger. I will surely visit. Dilli haat; noted. Will visit it.

I wanted to do Chandi Chouk. some of my girl friends are telling me that they loved their shopping there for everything desi (like bangles, bindis etc); I want to go there too. lets see.

Alternatively, I would suggest spending more time in Simla and/or other hill stations closeby.
i TOLD him...he is not listening. He wants to stay in Delhi. If it were up to me, I would have stayed in Jaipur and made Delhi a 2 day trip. Of course it would be more expensive but oh well, I am tired of reasoning.
I noted your points. I will surely visit Dilli haat.

You should also visit Dilli Haat (food and craft bazaar), Connaught Place (Janpath) for shopping (if you go there, try Nizam's Kathi Kababs) also Depauls @ Janpath and keventers for Milk Shake... Karim's in Old Delhi is a must visit food joint for Mughlai dishes (go to the one near Jama Masjid) … Also visit Pandara Road (lots of street food and restaurant options).. Food scene in Delhi is very vibrant.. Each popular joint boasts of a specialty dish.

Most of the 5 star hotels have excellent restaurants like any other city in India (depending upon your choice of cuisine)..

Delhi in April will be hot..
Thak you so much, especially about the food joint suggestions. One question though, my son, he is...hmm how should I put it, he has very low immune system. Do you find these street foods safe, in general? Adults of course will be OK. I am wondering how the little one will be; unless you suggest packing some snacks separately for him.

Noted...ya, last time i simply used my mom's phone as they kept insisting I need to show a local address proof before they give me a SIM. I will look for it this time at airport.

Settling down in Delhi is out of the question ji...I mean, I have no reason to settle there. If i were to settle down anywhere in India, I already know it would be one of the 3 places and its not Delhi.

I agree, we try and see our country more and more every time we visit there. This trip in Delhi and next trip we wanted to do Dal lake and its surrounding areas.

Our day long Delhi tour included this too, but this area was blocked because of some VVIP visit and we were spared the trouble.

The leather stuff rule might only be an advisory... not a rule. It is not that they strip-search everyone for leather goods. Maybe for respecting the sanctity of the place.

We were in Delhi Pune and Mumbai.. didn't face any issues.. No issues during the drive from Pune to Mumbai either.

Btw, for business travelers on short trips (a day or two), AT&T has something called an international day Pass for $10/day which allows you to use your local talk text and data plan in India.. Need to research for further details.

Well, I haven't as yet encountered any issues with my kids (touchwood) esp when it comes to restaurant food but then again every kid is different (immunity wise).. You might want to take precautions for sure.

My kids are equally at ease while devouring Mutton Rogan Josh and Phirni @ Karims or having Momos at Lajpat nagar @ Dolma Aunty's ..
