In a dog fight or WVR, F-16 would be eaten alive by Mig-29. Mig-29 had a feature by which the pilot just needed to look at the enemy air craft and push the fire button to send the missile towards the enemy aircraft.

BVR fight is an entirely different game. The comparisons found online are only with the export versions of USSR missiles, which by every basic principle were less capable than the real ones Soviet Jets used.
