Exclamation 32 killed in deadliest US campus shooting

32 killed in deadliest US campus shooting

At least 32 people were reportedly killed and more than two dozen wounded at Virginia Tech University on Monday in the deadliest campus shooting in US history.

The police said the gunman had died after the rampage in a dormitory at Virginia Tech and a separate, much deadlier, fusillade in a building housing engineering classrooms two hours later. The gunman first walked into the university dormitory and opened fire, killing at least one person. The others were killed later in the classroom building.

The university reported on its website that 22 people had been confirmed killed, surpassing the 15 who died in the April 1999 shooting at Columbine High School in Colorado.

No Indian was among those killed or injured, according to the Indian Students Association (ISA) of Virginia Tech. “But we have not been getting any response from the cellphone of an Indian girl who was in the same building where the shooting took place,” said Chetan Mogal, ISA treasurer.

Re: 32 killed in deadliest US campus shooting

very sad and traumatising for students... very sad for those who had class early monday morning and died as a result...

i know a few desi students at VTech... all r fine and they got news of the event early morning...

it'll be weird going to those classrooms knowing people were killed there... i dont know how i'd feel in such a class...

Re: 32 killed in deadliest US campus shooting

one eye-witness that ganji erin something chik described him as a tall asian with ammo vest...

first of all how did he get so many bullets... i guess he fired 100s of shots...

second, the cops dont know if the two incidents r linked... one shot in dorm and rest in engg. hall...

third, it seems they had bomb threats only last week... wat did cops do to find the source and be ready for such an eventuality... campus police only go on beats around univs and unlock doors if ppl. r locked out... from my knowledge they r not effective unless ppl call them...

Re: 32 killed in deadliest US campus shooting

I wonder how the hell does some loony with a handgun manage to shoot 30+ people with out being stopped? Did the police and security have water pistols?

Here's the info on the deceased professor.

New Delhi: As a stunned United States comes to terms with the gruesome shooting on the Virginia Tech University campus that claimed 33 lives, there’s bad news for India as well.

Reports have it that an Indian-origin professor is among those killed in the campus massacre.

Professor G V Loganathan of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering was teaching in a class in the Norris Hall – one of the crime scenes – when the gunman went on rampage.

His colleague Prof Raman Kumar confirmed the news of Loganathan’s death to CNN-IBN.

According to Raman, Loganathan was taking a lecture when the second shooting occurred. He was killed around 0915 hrs (local time), Raman confirmed.

When CNN-IBN contacted a shaken Raman, he was at Lognathan’s residence and said he got the confirmation from the authorities at the University.

However, Raman said no other details were made available and police were not willing to give out any information regarding the deceased or the injured to anyone except the immediate family.

Another of Loganathan's colleagues, Prof Mallika Kumar told CNN-IBN that the news of Prof's deaths broke around 1700 hrs (local time). "Police gave out the information after we tried locating him in local hospitals. I think they are giving out information of those killed one by one," said Prof Kumar.

Remembering Loganathan as a "well-known" professor, Kumar said he was renowned for his teaching techniques and had served the university for over 15 years.

"The Indian community is really supportive at this point of time and lots of students came to pay homage," he added.

University gunman identified

THE gunman who killed 32 people at a US university was a Korean national identified as Seung Hui Cho, ABC News reported in the US.

Seung Hui Cho was a permanent resident of the United States and his identity was confirmed with a positive fingerprint match on the guns used in the rampage and with US immigration materials, ABC reported on its website, without identifying its sources.

He was 23.

Meanwhile, the university said it was closing Virginia Tech for the remainder of the week.

Re: 32 killed in deadliest US campus shooting

The gunman was Korean loner student. He supposedly wrote some disturbing violent plays duing play-writing class. Here is the link of those plays (from blog of his classmate on AOL)

Here is the blog from his class-mate describing him:

Now wait for the liberal ACLU types who will come out of the woodwork and claim that Virginia tech should have been more 'sensitive' to his needs for writing 'violent plays' and will blame all the students for not supporting this shithead.

There will be all kinds of experts on TN news shows tonight and all will have some stupid theories.

If you notice someone is very violent or behaves strangely, you better be careful.

Thanks for the links. There seems to be some wierd things going on with Google. I am unable to find any information about this incident. Earlier today when I searched for cho seung-hui, I got a bunch of hits. I tried this again and suddenly not one link related to the virginia shooting at all. Wierd !! Is Google doing some censoring? Same thing searching for "virginia tech shooting". I am getting all sorts of basketball sites and nothing about this incident. I would expect this to be at the top....
