Powerful computer - you need at least 4 mb of RAM

Friends in my college were salivating when they heard I bgt computer with 2GB HDD .

Talking about computer specs and assembling was always part of discussion among friends .

Re: Nostalgia time - Internet in the 1990 era

Damn Windows 3.1 wouldn't install on the XT (extended technology) machine, the spec said it needed at least 386. I was not going to give up as that was the only machine with a Hard Disk.... others were running lotus on floppy diskettes. They were all double (floppy) drives. I installed full featured windows 3.1 on an XT machine 32 times and finally succeeded. Microsoft had to give in and lower their specifications.

Re: Nostalgia time - Internet in the 1990 era

Instead of all that trouble, you could've tried installing windows 3.0. That was a fine OS too. And there was Netscape for surfing.

3.0 was outdated. Also, there was no networking in 3.0 or 3.1 ... forget about internet... it was still to be invented. And btw, windows got networking on it operating system... er operating environment from 3.11 onwards.

Re: Nostalgia time - Internet in the 1990 era

Wasn't windows 3.11 called Windows for Workgroups ?? I don't remember about networking, but didn't Win 3.0 have provision for connecting to a modem and making phone calls etc ?? Of course, when 3.1 came, it became very popular.

Aside : There was a chinese version of windows 3.0 too
