Najar mat lagana.. i fall asleep in a matter of seconds generally. It’s important to slow down few hours before hitting bed.

My technique is simple - dinner minimum 2 hrs before sleeping, 1 hr after dinner brush your teeth, for 10-15 minutes read a book or something in bed .. turn off lights, lie down, say prayers or Om .. switch off mind from everything.. deep sleep ensues.

To start with - focus on diet and exercise.

180 mins of exercise per week.. preferably circuit training. Running and yoga make a good combo. It gives your cardio and flexibility. If you can add a sport like tennis or racquetball, you will be in good shape. Go outdoors - hiking, walking, stretching. Make sure you maintain good posture. Pranayam and breathing exercises help.

Diet needs to have plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, fiber, protein. Carbs depends on your level of activity. Go low on processed foods like maida. Maida is a killer. Avoid fried stuff. It causes indigestion and heartburn and can keep you up at night. Avoid heavy spice. Avoid excess sugars. Avoid saturated fats. Stick to whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables, ghee, eggs, meat, nuts, etc.

In fruit - best is to go for color. Strawberries, black and blue berries, kiwi, etc are rich in anti-oxidants. Pomegranate is great. Citrus fruits and cider in moderation.

In veggie stuff - chana, paneer, saag, sarson ka sang, etc are great. Lettuce, eggplant, aloo not so much. Lightly saute and tadka in moderation.

Meats - fish is the best, especially salmon. Next is chicken and seafood. Red meat is last on the list.

Maintain a daily routine and manage your time. At work, challenge yourself. Pick up a new assignment or project, just for giggles. At home, get a new hobby. Do housework. Play with kids. Don't worry about tomorrow because in the long term, we are all dead. Get a medical checkup. Check your blood work.

First and foremost - get your ass off the couch.

The before sleep activity is also likely to affect after sleep energy. Try different things is the message.
