Thumbs up Windows Vista RC1 (Beta 2)

I just installed Windows Vista RC1 (Build 5600) Ultimate. Its pretty awesome compared to XP but most of these features are already available on Mac OSX or Linux (certain distributions).

I was able to have reasonably good Aero experience, thanks to a good graphics card and RAM.

My system configuration:

CPU: Athlon XP 1700+ 1.1Ghz (pretty rusty proccessor.)
RAM: 1.5 GB = 1x1GB + 1x512MB PC3200
Graphics: 256MB DDR3 XFX Geforce 6800XT
Hard Drive: 80GB Samsung + 200GB Maxtor Drives
Display: 2 x Dell 1907FP 19" Flat Panel.

Note: for NVidia users, NVidia has not yet released 'complete' drivers for Vista Beta 2. There are drivers available but the NVidia control panel does not give good options like horizontal or vertical span for multiple monitors. (Dualview is available however!)

Here are some screenshots:

more to come.

to mods/admin: please dont move this to computing. that forum does not have the imag tags enable and hence I posted this here.

Vista Welcome Center:
(notice the 'thumbnail preview' of the window minimized in taskbar, microsoft calls this -"Taskbar thumbnails"! and also notice the icon for 'Windows Media Center'! yes! it comes default on Vista!)

Windows Speech Recognition:

Windows Speech Recognition Tutorial (you will need to train the computer for about 10-15 mins and then you can use voice commands for opening applications, minimising, typing text, closing and lots of other activities.):

System Assessment and Experience ratings:
(this will determine the kind of display features the OS will display. The good thing is Vista itself will decide on this and will adjust settings accordingly.)

Windows Experience Index (note the individual ratings given to each component like CPU, Graphics, RAM etc.; the lowest one (the bottleneck) is the score):

Windows Task Manager - Processes (I was only running firefox at this time):

Windows Media Player 11:
(Notice the nearly 100% CPU utilization for video playback (XVid DvdRip video was being played) on the CPU meter to the right of the video window! MS needs to do something about this.)

well, not officially! but yes. By the time I tried to sign up for beta testing, they closed the invitations. So, I downloaded it through torrents and got a serial key from serials.ws . Tried to activate it but the key was already used. Called Microsoft activation center and activated it through phone (the call center is in India). Vista does send anonymous crash reports though.

so you have a two processor system, BTW i always had this doubt, can you put two processors with different processing speeds, with differenet multipliers on a single system.
BTW what kind of MotherBoard do you use??

nope. I dont have 2 processors. I just have a old AMB Athlon XP 1700+ 1.1Ghz. The above installation is a x86 installation (32 bit). I havent tried x64 yet.

I dont think you can put 2 processors in one system. Atleast not on home PCs. However, you can have 2 graphics cards. The SLI technology for NVidia allows putting 2 AGP or PCIe high performance graphics cards. You need to buy a SLI-ready motherboard for this. Together, 2 cards will give you performance of 1.8x single card. That will make a hardcore gaming rig!

when u said you have Athlon 1700Xp + 1.1 GHz( as far as my knowledge goes Athlon 1700XP means 1.7GHz and + 1.1 GHz means one more processor)

BTW which SMPS do you use(power supply unit)
