They can have the joint session the way they were planning for land bill, but guess they did a U turn and are now coming with a highly watered down version of Land bill.

Now, this is the 2nd biggest ever majority won by a Non congress party (the other one was by Janata Party, which was more an alliance than a party) and claiming that this or that is holding back bills is a lame excuse. Narasimha Rao managed to push so many reforms in 5 years even without a majority. It is here that 'consensus building' comes into play. Actually, now all his MPLADS (crore for an MP for a year), Parliamentary consultative committees and Padma Vibhushan to ABV start making sense.

Who came up with this numbers. It would be a good step, but how exactly 2%. why not 1% or 5%. Even the estimates for small Cyber coolie projects are way off mark, and GDP growth comes from a huge number of sources. BTW, one allegation is that BJP was blocking this same bill when Congress was in power (i dont recall that though)..

And apparently regional parties are keen on having this, so a joint session roue should pull this through.

Indirect tax reform GST proposes to create an uniform tax rate across the country by subsuming excise, service tax and other local levies. GST is estimated to boost India's GDP by 1-2 per cent.

Joint session will be futile if hooligans have their way. India me jo kaam kare usko laat milti hai.

As much as I admire PVN, he did things by more by crook than hook, proved to be his downfall, booted out from Congress president post by Sonia's gang when he opposed the entry of Sonia Gandhi into active politics.

It has been proved how he bribed JMM's Shibu Soren to save his government, hell the High court even called the payment taxable income for the JMM MPs.

I think Speakers shouldn't allow protest in Parliament, it is place for discussion not protest.

Protest is tool for public not policymaker.

Hope when BJP in opposition in other state will show the discipline it is asking for.

Good point but how do you enforce that?
Reason behind protesting is stop others from proceeding with their agenda. If protesting stops , then the other party will shamelessly pursue its agenda.

So, it happens finally. Consensus is built and the GST bill goes through.

Kudos to government for working with the Opposition. Did Jaitley and PC get together on this?

Modi should be thankful to Jaitley for this, because he's cozy with Delhi's political coterie and could influence the opposition.

Bigger challenges will begin now. The implementation phase will not be easy, especially the IT part of things, hope they don't rope in pathetic desi IT giants for it.
