Thumbs down Assam - the new kidnapping capital of India

Just saw on Zee TV, where a terrorist group called DIMASA or some such name kidnapped a saw mill owner's young son and his friend. Then they blindfolded them and tortured them like Al Qaeeda and Taliban. They filmed it all and sent a CD to the family asking for 15 crores as the ransom!

ZEE TV showed the entire CD. It was really horrific. The militants were all dressed in military camoflage clothes and had automatic rifles. THe poor boys were tortured so badly that I felt really sad.

Check the story here

Then I searched on google with the key words Assam Kidnapping

Look at the links! Assam has truly become the new kidnapping capital of the world.

Thumbs down Re: Assam - the new kidnapping capital of India

Militants in Assam have resorted to the heinous methods to extract money from people.

They kidnap people and then take a video of them being beaten up and send the video on a CD to the family to ask for money.
Abductions are on the rise in the state. From the high profile Executive Director of Food Corporation of India P C Ram to petty traders, a number of people are being abducted.
And now ransom demands are being delivered through CDs containing footage of victims addressing their families.
The CDs are delivered to the house of the kidnap victims showing the victim being tortured.
On July 22, Kishore Choudhury, a Bihari and his Bengali friend, Sanju Debroy, were kidnapped from a town near Karbi Anglong.
A group calling itself the Dima Army demanded a ransom of Rs 15 crore for releasing Kishore and Sanju.
The figure has been reduced by half but the families of the victims are unable to pay up..

''We are not in a position to pay so much. We've heard our brother crying and we would like to appeal to the militant group to sympathise with us and release him,'' said Vijay Choudhury, victim's brother.
There have been at least 30 abductions in Assam during the last year. Most victims have been released after the ransom was paid out.
But some have been killed in encounters like Food Corporation of India manager P C Ram. While others have died in custody like the General Manager of the Cement Corporation of India last month.
In each of the cases, the government has been found wanting.
