Talking Baldness

I was in this design meeting with this nice gentleman(gm). Now this gm always wears a red winter cap on his head as it is cold here in Boston. But today he hadn't worn it. So it made me think while looking at his shiny white bald head, the purpose of having thick locks of hair. Hair serves the purpose to protect the head from sun, foreign material and also keep it wrm. Then why do people go bald? Is it part of the human evolution.

Now dont ask me why think about human evolution during a design meeting. Because I understood the reqs and what I have to do. This is when I started hearing "yada yada blah blah".

Since baldness is hereditary, I would think that its a part of evolution.

If it is hereditary then I head no longer needs to remain warm. Why do we still need head gears to keep our heads warm?

Does our heads "need" to remain warm? I thought if you dont want to, you dont need to wear a winter-cap.

Quote:
While humans have developed clothing and other means of keeping warm, the hair found on the head serve as primary sources of heat insulation; elsewhere their function is debated. Hats and coats are still required while doing outdoor activities in cold weather to prevent frost bite and hypothermia, but the hair on the human body does help to keep the internal temperature regulated. When the body is too cold, the erector pili muscles found attached to hair follicles stand up, causing the hair in these follicles to do the same. These hairs thus form a heat-trapping layer above the epidermis. This is called piloerection, which is a Latin word where 'Pilo' means hair and 'erect' means to stiffen. This process is more commonly known as having goose bumps.[10] The opposite happens when the body is too warm. The erector muscles make the hair lay flat on the skin which allows heat to leave.

When my parents were searching a match for me, their objective was a well educated guy [including eccentric doctrate guys with soda-water-bottle lenses]. For me it was simple

- above average looking.
- FULL head of hair.
