All this talk about her FB page, I thought I'd check it out.. Since I'm not following or a friend, all I see are the public posts.. almost each one of those is about Dalits

for a dalit in india , the entire life is about being a dalit and society's atrocious way of looking at dalits . unfortunately not even hi fi devyani can escape from that fate . naturally her entire existence has the dalit stamp upon it , thrust by us the upper castes on her .

anyway , her new book is out . 'the mahar bullock' . it is about a bullock owned by a mahar ( dalit caste ) and how even the bullock has to face discrimination and cannot compete in the any bullock race because it is owned by a mahar .

While I agree with you (first sentence only), for Devyani I feel it's about taking advantage of her minority status.. milking it actually. She was not underprivileged in any way while growing up (her father became MD of Mumbai BEST bus service during end of his career, apart from other many such big positions) .. at the most she may have faced some small discrimination but that is hugely offset from the number of flats she owns in Mumbai.

Why are 2nd generation given same minority status benefits? Any minority who got benefit for job .. their first family should be removed for 2 generations.. or something of this sort.

That's a great concept. I think Central railways started doing it.

That is indeed a fantastic suggestion... and that is what everyone but dalits are crying about. Rich dalits still get reservations... the poor, whether dalit or not, always suffer. That is the tragedy called India
