Skyscraper - Poor man's Die Hard

I happened to see SKYSCRAPER over the weekend.

Following my own advise, I will write a brief review.
  • Ex FBI, Ex SWAT Special forces guy has to leave the government service as he loses a leg during an official hostage rescue situation.
  • 10 years later, gets a gig as a 'security assesment specialist' via an ex- FBI team member in Hong Kong to asses the tallest building in the world (200 plus floors)
  • Some bad guys want to burn down the building so that owner gives up something they want
  • Hero saves his family trapped in the tower, saves the owner.
  • Everyone cheers. Audience feels they will get chocolate cake but end up getting a very mediocre plain cake

Re: Skyscraper - Poor man's Die Hard

The latest box office report, as of this weekend 15th July 2018, pegged this movie at 3rd place in US. Hotel Transylvania 3 and some other movie came first and second.

Dwayne Johnson makes masala movies only. No great plot either except one or two movies. But his movies are seen by people. Maybe we have our own Dharmendra and Shatrughan Sinha, making us think his movies are banal.

If you see this movie, you will realize that Die Hard 1 was more masala than Skyscraper

I have no problem with masala movies, but when the story is very weak and there is no suspense, or rather its revealed quite soon, then the awesome special effects cannot carry the movie further.

All the thrills are shown on a big screen to be seen by the crowds in the movie.

Also there is a big gaping hole in logic, which is so stupid that even our own Bollywood masala movies wouldn't skip.

The Mission Impossible franchise is also full of unbelievable thrill scenes and James Bond like gadgets and chase scenes and fights, but there is always aplot line, a story which keeps you engaged.

Die Hard, for me, became pathetic from the part where they show someone hacking the entire social security number and banking system. It had too many special effects but no story.
