Thumbs down Celebrities stall infrastructure improvisations in Bombay

Well… First it was the Melody Queen Lata Mangeshkar & sister Asha Bhosle who voiced their opposition to the construction of the flyover over Peddar road in Bombay citing vested reasons that it would give rise to more noise & air pollution & would permanently damage their vocal chords.

Peddar road, which becomes a traffic bottleneck, has cars crawling bumper to bumper during peak rush hours. The proposed four-lane flyover would certainly ease the flow of vehicular traffic & would also reduce air pollution from vehicles. In fact slow moving and idling cars pollute much more than ones that are travelling fast.

These celebrities have their own unjustifiable reasons to oppose anything that would put them in the slightest of discomfort, than think in terms of welfare of the city.

Now the new individual to join this infamous bandwagon is the scum cricketer of yesteryears Ravi Shastri… He is now spearheading a group of residents to protest the new Worli-Bandra sea Link alignment. The 6 Km link being constructed by Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) would link Bandra Bandstand to Worli Seaface. Shastri now wants the exit of this flyover to be shifted to Worli Dairy. For what reason?? Because our great cricketer lives in a building along the sea face. In a letter to the Maharashtra CM Vilasrao Deshmukh, he wrote: “ It is a request of all citizens to bring the exit of the sea link at the end of Worli Seaface near Worli Dairy, where there are no residential buildings, which would be environmentally appropriate.” The bridge was earlier planned to join at Worli village, but later it's alignment had to be changed & shifted towards the sea face after protests from the village fisherman folk that it would effect their livelihood. This caused the cost of the project to jump from Rs.600 crores to Rs.1,300 crores. Now when work was about to begin with the new proposed plan, another celebrity plays spoilsports.

Finally it is the daily motorist and the common traveller, who is effected & has to bear the brunt of these insolvable problems & delays caused by such celebrities, throwing their weight around to ensure that no change in their comfy lifestyles take place…..

Arey Viruss Baba, Hey apan kaye sangto?? Mee pan tuja sarkha Mumbai cha manas ahe….

Kya kare bidu… apun aadat se majboor hai… Bachpan se jo school mein sikha tha, “Bombay” woh-ich zabaan pe ataa hai…..

I still prefer this old original name of my city to the new one… Even today if I travel by train on Central railway, I ask for a ticket to VT (Victoria Terminus) and not CST… It doesn’t mean I have no respect for the present new names….. Its just that the old names are still registered in my memory & they don’t wane with the passing times…

Re: Celebrities stall infrastructure improvisations in Bombay

Hmm.. now Shastri joins the brigade of the likes of Medha Patkar. Dont they realise that India is no dveloped country but a 'developing' country? We need all the infrastructure we can have. Worli village, I know this place. Its a village of fishermen. So now that the fishermen objected and weild a considerable vote bank, our politicians have decided to screw the porject costs and make it double. Well, now Shastri wants the flyover to end at Worli dairy. So tomorrow someone else will have some other ideas.

Hey how about this? Dont make the bridge land at Worli at all! Let the Worli residents suffer!

Cha Pai…. This 6 km bridge is not being built for Worli residents alone. This bridge, once built would link Bandra Bandstand to Worli Seaface. It would be somewhat similar to the Golden Gate. Currently motorists from the western suburbs traveling into the city use the Western Express Highway & then join Bandra & thereafter drive through Mahim, Prabhadevi & then Worli to make it to the city. The drive from Bandra to Worli takes 20 to 30 minutes (more at times) depending on the traffic. This bridge would shorten this traveling time to a mere 10 minutes. Motorists can join the bridge straight away from the Western Express highway & in 10 minutes they are in Worli Seaface & in 15 minutes, they would be in Haji Ali…

This would prove a boon to a daily traveller as it would phenomenally save on traveling time & stress.

Its up to these dim witted celebrities to understand the need for such infrastructure improvisations in Bombay & cooperate in their implementation than oppose them on silly unjustifiable grounds….
