Post Narendra 'Newton' Modi has a lot to answer

NEW DELHI: Fish rots from the top, and if the ugly events unfolding in Gujarat over the past four days are any indication, the same holds true for governance too.

Even after four days of senseless violence, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi is yet to reassure the five crore people of his state that he is the guardian of their lives and property.

The past four days have made it clear that the dividing line between the government, the police, the BJP and other fronts of the Sangh Parivar like the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal have got totally blurred in Gujarat.

Asked about the violence, Modi quoted Newton's third law - "every action has an equal and opposite reaction" - to virtually justify what is happening.

In the case of the lynching of former Congress MP Ahsan Jaffrey, he was quick to point out that it was Jaffrey who had first fired at the mob. He forgot to say what a citizen is expected to do when a menacing mob, which has already slaughtered many, approaches him and the police has deliberately not responded to his pleas.

When the attack on the train took place on February 27 and the VHP called for a bandh, Gujarat BJP president Rajendrasinh Rana was quick to announce the state BJP's support for the strike, giving clear signals to the administration that it need not take a hard line against those who enforce the bandh.

By noon on Thursday, shops owned by Muslims were broken open in Ahmedabad, Rajkot and other cities even as the police looked the other way. At many places, the police mingled with the vandals and pleas for help went completely unheeded.

While Vadodara police imposed curfew early in the morning, the police commissioner of Ahmedabad took time in following suit.

It is easy to blame the police commissioner, but there are clear indications that his hands were tied by the minister of state for home, Gordhan Zadaphia, who has risen from the ranks of the VHP.

Zadaphia is a supporter of the international general secretary of the VHP, Pravin Togadia, at whose insistence the home portfolio was given to him when Modi became chief minister.

It was only when the situation had gone sufficiently out of hand that the police tried to intervene. But by that time, it was too late and the mobs had swelled to enormous proportions. The sparse police presence looked like a drop in this ocean of violence.

And what did the chief minister have to say about what was happening? He said, "The five crore people of Gujarat have shown remarkable restraint under grave provocation." He went on to blast the Godhra killing of kar sevaks while brushing aside the equally brutal retaliation that was taking place against Muslims.

If the Central government was speaking about not allowing VHP activists into Ayodhya, Modi said that police protection should be given to them en route. If the people of Gujarat were expecting a reassuring face, what they got was a sangh pracharak on television who has perhaps forgotten he is now Chief Minister.

Incidentally, Modi has yet to see mobs because he has not visited the worst-affected areas. If only he had the courage shown by George Fernandes, who carried on his tour of the riot-hit areas despite being mobbed and stoned.

This is what happens if the power is in the hands of fanatics. Unfortunately, now majority of the people are fanatics. I mean, Majority Hindus are fanatics. Majority Muslims are fanatics. Similarly Majority Christians are fanatics.

All of them will confirm to you that theirs is the only correct religion.

Now since this thread is about criticizing one particular fanatic, I will refrain from providing a solution to reduce/eleminate fanatism here. I will do so in some other thread later.

F*** you all, the CM did the best he could. As he said, this was not an organized riot like before, but a genuine outpouring of Hindu reaction. Yes, it was against the law. But yes, they needed to be taught a lesson. The lesson is, kill a Hindu and we will kill 1000s of Muslims.

Muslims have for very long taken Hindu restraint for granted. Now they are getting paid back in their own coin. From now on, Muslims will be marked people, India should not rest until the last one is killed

Oh yeah ??!! What would he have done if this were an organized riot? He would be ready to control it? Roits are always a reaction to some or the other "last straw". And yes, getting organized for a riot does nto take long. Arm yourself with a chain and hit the streets. Then do whatever comes to your mind.

India does have a sorrow history. True that Hindus have been abused by Islamic rulers and there have been atrocities and forcible conversions. But in the history so many things have happened. So many battles have been fought. So much land was acquired by diferent kingdoms. Now we are one nation. Please understand that. How many years do you take the history back. We are taught sbout history starting from British colonialism to independence. You want to takt it back to when? See... If you start travelling back in time, and stop where you want, then I ask you, whay stop there? Why not go back much further. There are people who believe you are not a native of this land. So you are a foreigner too. Go whereever you belong.

That is exactly the point !! Only Hindus really belong to this land. Even if you go back 5000 years, you will still find Hindus in India. Muslims belong too if they acknowledge their 'Indian' or read 'Hindu' history and roots and try to assimilate both. Sikhs, Buddhism and Jainism evolved in India and so they are part of our culture as well. But Islam is not.

The muslims in India are the leftovers of nearly 1000 years of barbarian Muslim rule and Hindu genocide. Part of them are foreingers, part are Indian through conversion. They have to decide if they want to live as Indians or not.

And as far as riots are concerned, had this been organized, you would see far lesser deaths and in Ahmedabad only. The reason it has spread is a genuine reaction to intolerance practised by the Muslims in India.

Reprisals against Muslims have been increasing in the last few years because the younger generation is not taking any of the bullshit that lets live in harmony. Thats not possible, when something is wrong, its wrong, no amount of 'amity' will make it right.

Echarcha and his secular friends may be Gen X, but they ideologically are part of the earlier generation which grew up partly in 'pseudo secularism'. But Gen Y is in no mood for this. They have seen the real face of the Muslims and after Sep 11, everyone in the world knows where roots of terrorism lie, in the mosques and madrassas all over the world. So, Muslims must beware, if they don't Indianise and stop their terror activities in their mosques, they will all be exterminated.

Exclamation Wake up dear Hindus!!!

It's high time that Hindus shed the inferiority complex and become agressive. We have not just a nation but our existance to safeguard.

The times are gonna get tougher and like they say the toughest survive. It's time we beat the shit outta our enemies..enemies of our very existance.
