as far as the looting part goes, loot ke kaha jaa raha hai paisa? kis ki jeb mein?

surely that's not only because of GST?

It boils down to this - is the pain worth it to make things better in future. Almost everyone agrees that GST is going to be good for the country. Before BJP came to power, Congress and allies had tried to bring it in (and BJP had opposed at the time!).

Congress was going to bring lower rate of GST---14 percent. But BJP levied higher rate , from which it was forced to backtrack.

Re: Achche Din

Reactions of many people in India to Narendra Modi's initiatives remind me of this movie Bedazzled.

Brendan Frazer lands in a situation where he can ask for wishes from elizabeth hurley (who plays the devil, so there is bound to be mischief as against reality in India). Everytime Brendan asks for making his life according to how he wants it. He gets what he wants but always with an added something that he does not want. - he asks to be rich and powerful, with his crush as his wife. The devil makes him a columbian drug lord with his wife cheating on him.
in a separate episode, he wishes to be intelligent, witty and well-endowed. The Devil grants this by making him a famous writer whom Alison (his crush) falls in love with at a cocktail party. with this wish though, he also becomes gay!

with things we want, we will always end up getting something else that we may or may not want.... is it worth it? we have to decide. 2019 not far now.

Do we know what we want? And how to get there?

While talking to a Japanese VP in Toyota (during my internship in 2002), I asked him we don't have the roads for these great cars you're pumping into the market.. he said always the cars come first and then the roads, and then the driving sense.. the world over this is how it has worked.

ofcourse a car manufacturer will say that. the VP would be writing a resignation letter if he said - oh, lets not sell cars if roads are not there... Ford used to say before model t was launched - if public were asked what they want, they would have said faster horses.

that does not make it true though. unless people want things (whether they know it or not), industry or infrastructure does not develop.

its purely speculative what rate would we have ended up with had congress implemented it. point is there is no escaping tax reforms - even if it causes teething problems.

Re: Achche Din

State bank of India introduced a rule to keep a minimum balance of 5000 rupees in your savings account. All under watchful eye of Modi sarkar. If you could not do so , penalty would be extracted from the account every month. Poor people who could not maintain the minimum balance found their meagre savings further reduced due to penalties. Finally under public pressure the minimum balance has been reduced to 3000 rupees. Acche din my foot !!

from that article -

In April this year, the country's largest lender reintroduced charges on non-maintenance of monthly average balance (MAB) after a gap of five years.

another article (link) says -

The bank has also revised penalty for non maintenance of MAB. It will now attract 20% to 50% lesser charges across all population groups and categories.
----
"This is in addition to the already exempted categories under PMJDY (Prime Minister's Jan Dhan Yojna) accounts and Basic Savings Bank Deposits Accounts (BSBD)," the SBI said in a statement.

so doc saheb, to me it sounds like the current MAB requirement is better than what it was during UPA rule.

ofcourse no-charges is much much better for people.

.
So reintroducing the charges on non maintenance of monthly average balance that were removed during UPA rule is the much touted achhe din ?
